Full traced USA to ship but am utterly stuck

Post by Mcari »

Hello everyone!

I usually try to do all of my own work, but I am at a complete stand still...

I have traced my ancestors back to when they first arrived from Italy in 1903.

I have traced them to myself, compared all census data (names, ages, birthdays, death, etc) I compiled their name changes, ages, spouses, children, military documents, etc, and I do believe that I have traced them all from when they sat foot into the USA, to when they died.

My issue is that when my grandmother set foot in the USA her true maiden name has only been brought up by her children on their WW1 and WW2 registry cards, and on a birth certificate. Her maiden name is never brought up in any of her census data. Also would like to note that her first name has changed drastically in each census from arrival in 1903, census of 1910. I will give you an example.

Arrival in 1903 her name looks to read Annerziala, and then it switches to Enchioto, and then continues with various forms of Mary. Her surname from her childrens documents is Maria Justi.

Here is my family tree thus far

Ship name - CItta Di Milano
Arrival - June 5th 1903
Port of Departure - Genova
Port of Arrival - New York, New York
Family home village - Pescaglia, Lucca

Fathers name - Anselmo Cari
Wifes name - Annerziala Cari (Maria Justi as maiden name on documents)
Childrens names - Nello, Grisosfomo, Serafino, Michele, Rodolfo.

Final settling place was in Sonoma County, California within 7 years of their arrival. The entire family from what I can tell stayed within that same area for the next 60 years.

I am at a stand still. I have tried to search through Italy for birth certificates, baptism records, etc. I have searched through thousands of names in hopes that I can tie them to Italy, but to no avail.

I would very much appreciate some guidence, because I am not sure what to do at this point. Thank you all!

Here is a link to the allegati for the marriage. They are a collection of documents gathered to apply for the marriage license. I goes from images 251 to 257. It includes the birth records of both the bride and groom.
