Need help finding 1 person

Post by Mcari »

I have been able to locate family in Italy from the help of some amazing people, but I am having a very hard time finding 1 person.

Michele Cari , born april 22nd, 1901. Should be in Pescaglia, Lucca, Tuscany.

I am currently scanning through all of the Nascita logs from 1897 to 1901 incase the dates are not accurate.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Eldest son's birth

3rd Son
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cat=836134

4th Son should be named "Michele" with the surname "Cari"

I have searched through at the very least 2000 Nati's(Births), but I couldn't find him anywhere. He may have been born in South American (Brazil), but I am not sure.

Great finds here.

Do you have this son that was born 6 September 1901 (No 165) (so Michele can't have been born 1901): https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cat=836134

It says that Anselmo was living in Parosol? (Brazil ?) at the time of the birth.

(The other children you have linked here were born 1893 and 1895 so there is about a six year gap.)

You know its awesome that you found this, but it literally came @ the exact time that I found out that I do not qualify for dual-citizenship because the person you found was such a complete loser that he didn't marry my grandmother..........

Spent all of 14 hours searching for this today!!!

I can not take credit for those finds. Some very talented people found those for me.

Angela you're simply amazing. I am not sure how you found that so quickly, but after seeing the catalog that you linked I actually never accessed that one... I am still a newby at looking up stuff through family search, also I have no technique for translating Italian documents, yet.

What does the child's name read as?

Hi there

His name is Gio Quintilio Rodolfo but going by the following passener list, and other records, he must have gone by the name Rodolfo: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1368704

In this passenger list that I have just posted here, Michele is 4 years old, so born circa 1899. I have gone page by page through 1899 but he is not there. So he was possibly born late 1898 or early 1900. I haven't looked through those records and am running out of time now.

BTW: There are limited indices which are grouped together, so they certainly helped with finding Rodolfo's birth record. :) https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cat=836134

@Angela. It says "ambidue domiciliati a Pascoso". Pascoso is a "frazione" of Pescaglia.

Grazie. I can see that now that you have pointed it out. What is the word before ambidue?

I find it very odd that Michele doesn't show up. I wonder if Michele was born in Brazil, by another woman? I am unsure how he is so hard to find lol. I cannot find him any where.

Thank you for helping me though! I really appreciate you!

Look at this census from 1910 - Annunziata's name is changed to Enchioto.... I wonder if she was trying to list Michele's real mother on the census, or ?

I'm sure he will be there. It's just a case of going through those records page by page. There didn't seem to be an index for those years. I'd say that Enchioto is a really bad mispelling of Annunziata. The person taking the census would have just written down what he thought he heard.

Happy to help.

Hi mcari

I went through several years, page by page, looking for your Michele Cari's Italian birth record, and agree, it is not there.

I found this: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1968530
You said in another thread that your family settled in Sonoma County. Is this person I've linked you to your Michele Cari. If so, it says that he was born on 2 April 1900 in the US???? So maybe the family travelled to the US where Michele was born, then returned to Italia, had Rudolfo, and then returned to the US again????? Seems like a huge upheaval for a family with young children???? Anyways, just a suggestion.

You mentioned that Anselmo had lived in Brazil and may have had a relationship there. What information do you have that suggests Anselmo lived there, and in what timeframe? Is Anselmo your great-grandfather, or grandfather.

BTW: You have linked us to three Marriage Banns here but no Marriage for Anselmo and Annunziata. :)

Angela
Not true

I just had another look at the links you have posted here and the first link is to the Allegati (attachments) for the marriage of Annunziata and Anselmo.

You will be interested that amongst the Allegati that you have posted here is an extract of the Church Record for Annunziata. This will explain some of the changes in her given name that you see in some of the US records that you have found: At birth she was named "Maria Annunziata Angela" (Annunziata is underlined and this is the name she went by.) She was born on 24 March 1865, daughter of Serafino Giusti son of Michele; https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cat=836134

The following link is an extract of Anselmo's Church Record: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cat=836134

He was a foundling. The name "Cari" would have been an invented name.
You may wish to have both these records translated on the Translations forum here. Post them separately.

Edit to Add:

Here is a copy of the their original Marriage Record:

Marriage No 21: Anselmo Cari and Annunziata Giusti
Pescaglia: 24 May 1891

Groom: Anselmo Cari, never married, 28 yo, Vetturale (coachman), born in Lucca, residing Pascoso, son of the Hospital of Lucca.

Bride: Annunziata Giusti, unmarried, 26 yo, atta a casa (at home/domestic?), born in Gobitelli, residing Pascoso, daughter of Serafino (Giusti), residing Pascoso, and of Rachele Boldi.

Angela!!

From speaking with one of my great aunt's she said that the Cari family moved to Brazil, wasn't satisfied there, and came back to Italy right before they moved to the USA. Not exactly sure the time frame, but from what she had said it happened before they came to the USA.

I wonder if Michele is a foundling? The only things that come to mind to explain us being unable to locate Michele is that

1- He was a foundling
2- He wasn't born in Lucca
3- He might possibly be one of the Giusti's children, and Anselmo and Annunziata were smuggling him into the USA for another family.

I will have to spend some time going through the back of the Nati books to see if there is any indication of him. I was doing some research on foundlings, and from what I read in the back of the books is where they assign children that were abandoned.

Side Note - On Anselmo and Annunziatas Marriage paper work where it lists Anselmos father it read something like "Dello XXXXXX di Lucca".

I am curious if the word is Haole? It looks to read either Cfuole, Cfuale, Huole, ?)

On another set of marriage bans it looks to read "aeli Aspecua" ? I am unsure what the letters are.

I have printed of versions of old Italian handwriting, and am currently attempting to decypher the words letter by letter, and then translating it into English.
The hardest part for me is that I do not speak Italian. I would be unable to identify words that are either lost in translation, or combinations of words that change the means of two words into another word / sentence.

I still have a very long way to go in unraveling this mystery, but I am very glad that you have been able to help me!

This is truly one of the hardest things that I have ever done.
