Sicilian record help

Post by Chocopies »

First, this is a birth record (maybe death too?) for Melchione Francesco Giufre of Linguaglossa.

Could someone confirm a name I think I see? The name I am unsure of is the abbreviation(?) after the father's name which I believe indicates the paternal grandfather's name. So right after 'Desiderio Giufre' I see what looks like 'Jo:' or 'Io:' which I think could mean Giovanni. Is that right?

Then, after the baby's name I am confused. Did the baby die on the 14th?

Other information I am not too concerned about, but if interested, the mother was Isabella Vecchio (Giufre). The godfather appears to have been Giovanni Francesco Stagnitta (of the late Bartolomeo Stagnitta). And the midwife, maybe Donatella Lampuri.

Thank you for looking!

The baby was born at 14 "this morning" (if they used "Italian time", 14 hours after sunset).
The last name mentioned might be the godmother, though I can't read it.
As to the rest, I think you are right.

That's interesting, thank you! I will have to look in to how they were keeping track of time back then.
