Could someone help me figure out the name of the last person residing with my ancestors? I cannot tell if they are a boy or a girl and what their relationship to the head, iacopo (Giacobo) is. Usually the boys and their ages are listed first, then the girls without ages. This person appears last and without an age. However, they are not a son or daughter, so perhaps the age would not be given anyway.
I think it says Franciscella (Francesca) and "nephew" (but would probably be niece).
Also, I have seen the wifes name as 'Angisella' and 'Angilella'. How is her name written here? Thank you!

Re: Help translating Italian name and relationship in census
I'm reading the wife's given name as Angilella
I'm reading Franciscella "sua" nepote (nipote) - so definitely a girl - either a niece or grand daughter. (The "a" on the end of the name indicates female and the "sua" confirms female, other wise it would be "suo".

Thank you Angela, I hadn't noticed the sua/suo difference! She is definitely a niece since this couple had no children 16 years ago, and the son here is named after his grandfather, Santoro.AngelaGrace56 wrote: 19 Jul 2018, 21:38 I'm reading the wife's given name as Angilella

It's interesting that in the census 16 years earlier, Giacomo's age was listed as 21 and now as 40. My guess is that '21' was accurate (no rounding) and 16 years later he was actually 37ish, which they rounded to 40. There is a lot of strange yet interesting things in these censuses!

You are very welcome.
That's interesting about the ages on the census. I hadn't seen that before, but maybe someone else has. Sometimes, of course, people didn't really know their own ages and just made them up. I often see this in birth records, where the husband has declared the birth, he stays the same age for years, while his wife gets older, or sometimes younger!!!
