Simple census translation

Post by Chocopies »

This is a census record for Giacomo Giuffre and his wife Flavia. There is a woman named Catarina? Formica and a man named Giachino di Napoli.

Could someone with a better grasp of Italian help me translate the relationship of Catarina and Giachino to Giacomo? Are they Flavia's parents (Giacomo's in laws) or are they servants 'serva'/'servo'? Thank you!

I believe that the woman is "serva" and Giacino is "servo" - servants. I'm not positive that it says Caterina, but wouldn't rule it out. Caterina has 8 letters and this only has 6. What I try to do is look at the rest of the page or nearby pages and see if I can find other places where the writer makes the questionable letter(s) the same way but where it is clear from context what the letter is.
Researching Gibellina, Sicily surnames Bivona, Bonafede, Zummo, Ponzio, Bevinetto, Beninati, Fontana, Cipolla, Bruno, Manfrè, Lanfranca, and Navarra

Thank you! As for her name, it's an abbreviated form--see how the 'na' is superscripted? I see 'Cat...na' so I just guessed 'Caterina' since it was a pretty common name then. There are other possibilities though.
