Military photos

Anybody know the regiment in this picture? It's around WWI era. I'm also curious if Italian conscription at the time meant soldiers were conscripted into any regiment, or were there conscript-only regiments and professional-only regiments, etc.

Secondly, does anyone know a good resource for finding military records? My other great-grandfather also served in WWI, and was even captured as a POW on the Italian front. But I don't know what regiment he was in or where he served.

The second photo was taken in the 1880s/1890s and he should be in the 66th company of the Territorial Militia. If you are ok with that I can post these photos in a specialized forum (http://www.milistory.net). They should be able to tell us more

First of all, these photos are amazing. What a lucky find!

Second, my grandfather carried around his military photo in his wallet all of his life. He was 13 when it was taken. He lied about his age. The thing was a mess. One day I convinced him to lend it to me for a few weeks. I had it restored for him. The shop I took it to was so impressed by the photo, that they did all sorts of stuff for me for free! I didn't have a lot of money back then, so I just asked for one photo in black and white. It was a tiny little photo and very damaged. I left with a folder full of photos of all sizes in black and white, sepia, and a little bit of colour. it cost me almost nothing.

Look around and see if you can find someone interesting. Good luck.
