Faded document - Can you help?

Post by researching »

Hi guys,

I have a faded document that I am having a very difficult time reading. Could one of you please take a look and see if you can make out what's at the bottom? Here is what I think it says, but I'm not sure:

Di Bello Teresa (Widow?)
died 11 Jan 1832
born in Trani (80 years old?) filandaia
strada Marina?
figlio del fu Giacinto?
E di Ventura Caterina?

thanks so much for your help

I have a faded document that I am having a very difficult time reading. Could one of you please take a look and see if you can make out what's at the bottom? Here is what I think it says, but I'm not sure:

Di Bello Teresa (Widow?) Yes, it says widow of deceased........?
died 11 Jan 1832 Yes
born in Trani (80 years old?) filandaia Yes, spinner
strada Marina? I think so.
figlio del fu Giacinto? It doesn't look like it starts with a G but it's really too faded to be sure.
E di Ventura Caterina? In these records the given name is written first. It looks like it might say della fu Caterina but I can't see Ventura there. The surname has faded away.

No, it's not. I tried changing the shades but it didn't help much. :(

Thanks for taking a look, Angela.

I did the same thing and just had another look at it now. What makes it tricky is that there are variations in the script of how letters are formed so you don't really have an accurate comparison.

If you are trying to find the children born to Giacinto and Caterina, maybe just push on for now and come back to it later. It's a pity the quality of these records are so poor. :(

It's hard to tell really because it looks like the tail of the letter "f" might come down on the first letter of the given name. (I'm due for new "readers" so will take another look when they arrive.)

You could try requesting a copy from the Comune. Their records (if they still have them) might be in better condition than the State Archive copies.

For now I'm just going through all births, marriages, and deaths and noting them all to see who's who. I'm not too concerned about it just yet.

Thanks for your help. :)
