Help with handwritten portion of Marriage Act

Post by anzuena »

Hello -

I'm trying to understand the various connections between ancestors and thus have a handful of marriage documents where I'll need to be able to read dates and names.

I've been amazed at how kind people are in this forum, and I don't want to take advantage of the goodwill of those who take time to help out here, so I'm trying to translate as much and as well as I can on my own, knowing that a lot of the language is standard. Below is one example, and my best attempt to translate it.

I have two questions:
1. is what I've translated reasonably close?

2. I get lost in the handwriting at the bottom - is anyone able to transcribe what I've missed, so that I can better understand what Italian is written and learn how to translate it in other records?

My translation attempt:
The year 1899, on the day 19, of January, at 11 hours and 15 minutes, in the city hall of Sant'elia a Pianisi, open to the public.

Before me Giuseppe Carabiere Amacato Cacchiore Mayor, an official of the civil registration, officially appeared personally: 1. Nicolamaria Anzuino [Ce??] [45?], farmer, born in Gambatesa, resident in Gambatesa, son of Giuseppantonio, resident in Gambatesa, and of Maria Giovanna Aitella, resident in Gambatesa; Maria Incoronata Colavata N[???], 38, farmer, born in Sant'elia a Pianisi, resident in Sant'elia a Pianisi, daughter of Federico, resident in Sant'elia a Pianisi, and of Angelantonia Mignacca, resident in Sant'elia a Pianisi, who made a request of me to unite them in marriage; for this purpose they presented to me the documents described below; and from the examination of them, including those already produced for the marriage banns, all of which were approved by me and put in the volume of supplemental documents to this register, resulting in nothing to hinder the celebration of their marraige. I read to the bride and groom articles 130, 131, 132 from the Civil Code, and therefore I asked of the groom if he intended to take as a wife the present Maria Incoronata Colavita, and to her if she intended to take as a husband the present Nicolamaria Anzuino; and each of them having answered in the affirmative with the full intelligence of the undersigned witnesses, I pronounced in the name of the law that the same were united in marriage. At this act were present: Giovanni Cermitti, 33, owner, and Carlo Tartaglia, 34 [can't make out profession], residents of this town. [can't make out the rest]

Livio, thank you so much for your keen eye on my work and for the transcription so I can continue to learn as I practice. This has been a tremendous amount of fun, and with no background at all in the Italian language this forum has been a tremendous resource for me.

Thanks again and I hope you have a great day.

Maria Incoronata Colavata / Maria Incoronata Colavita is the correct surname for this area.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Colavita-3 Alesio Colavita is my third great grandfather.
