Hello, I am new to the site and am doing just getting into my families background. As you can tell from nickname my last name is Pagniano. I started my research on the ellis island web site. We knew there was a spelling change of our last name somewhere along the lines but we are not sure when. The ellis island site says our last name was spelled Pagnano. It says our families destination was Wooster Ohio. This is where my family lives to this day! My grandfather came over in 1906 on the perugia. My family is from Campoli Appeninno. Was hoping maybe someone had some more general info on my relatives or perhaps is a relative. Thank you in advance, we have a large amount of people of Italian descent in my area and it is a pretty tight knit group so maybe I can be of help.

Italian Genealogical Records by Trafford R. Cole is invaluable in researching your Italian ancestors......the book is clear, short and to the point, a fast easy read which covers all aspects of researching Italian records.......but before you jump across the ocean to Italy......make sure you gather all US records such as birth, marriage and death, immigration and naturalization. Census and draft records are great at giving you an overall picture of the family.
