Yes, very interesting -- a new perspective to consider. Interesting to think that the priest in question would have agreed to even see the aspiring couple if he opposed the marriage. Perhaps he hoped to talk them out of it, or perhaps he was "tricked" into hearing their pronouncements (unlike the priest in the book), then professed his reluctance to protect himself from any criticism later? I guess we will never know for sure, but I do find it interesting to ponder what may have been going on!
