Fadale/LaRocca from Galati, Italy

Post by forestmaiden71 »

Hello! I am wondering if anyone is willing to help with this family mystery.

Name: Emily (Emilia) Fadale
Dob- about 1910
Came to us in 1921

I know she and her brother Calagro and her mother - Calogera - came to the US together. It lists their home as Galati, Italy. Her mother came to the US under the name LaRocca while Emily and her brother were Fadale. Her mother is also listed as a widow and her mother's father's name was Carmelo.

What I'd love to know- her father's info...her birth info...her mother's maiden name (if it is LaRocca?). Info about her brother? I've done a lot of looking and cannot seem to find more about these guys. Any help would be wonderful.

The ship passenger list for her arrival on March 10, 1921 lists Calogera La Rocca's nearest relative as her father, Carmela (probably actually Carmelo La Rocca) from Galati, Sicily. Her children, Emilia Fadale and Calogero Fadale, list their grandfather Carmela of Galati as their nearest relative.

Yes , that child (emily) is the one I'm looking for information on. That listing is for her mom. I'm interested in Emilia.
Thanks!

I was just looking to get as much as I could on the mother first, as it's easier to search with that info. Here is her brother Calogero's birth record on August 26, 1910.

It looks like mother Calogera's full name was Francesca Calogera La Rocca, and her husband Calogero Fadale was deceased by the time the boy was born in August. She was a seamstress, age 26 at the birth, and living at #28 Via Dante. The boy's full name was Calogero Francesco Antonino Fadale.

Here is Emilia's birth record on July 19, 1908. It shows that Calogero Fadale was age 20. Wife was Francesca Calogera La Rocca, age 24. Emilia's full name was Emilia Grazia.

The immigration record for Calogera La Rocca indicates that she has a brother in law in America by the name of Francesco Cascione. Here is the marriage record of Francesco Cascione and Marianna La Rocca in 1906. It indicates that she was 28 at the time and that her father was Carmelo La Rocca age 56 and a woodworker or carpenter (presumably also the father of Calogera). Her mother was Grazia Drago.

Here is the marriage publication of Calogero Fadale and Francesca Calogera La Rocca in 1907. It indicates that Calogero Fadale was 19 and was the son of Francesco Fadale, a tailor living in Patti, and of Emilia Salieri. Francesca Calogera La Rocca is listed as age 23, the daughter of Carmelo La Rocca, woodworker in Galati, and Grazia Drago.

Happy to help. Galati is a little confusing, as there are records listed under Galati, Galati Marina, and Galati Mamertimo. These are all listed under Galati Mamertimo.
