Translating Birth Records from Vizzini

Post by mnaccarato »

Hello! I found the below birth records for my Grandfather Giuseppe Pantorno and my Great-Grandfather Benedetto Luigi Pantorno. After looking at so many of these, I took a shot at translating myself and wanted to test out the translation I've made to see how correct it is/if I'm missing anything. Would appreciate a cross-reference on both!

Giuseppe Pantorno Birth Record: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... at=2387646

Act #307. October 30, 1938. Appeared Benedetto Luigi Pantorno, age 28, raised in Vizzini, told me that at 9 o'clock on the 28th of the current month, in the house Via S. Maria Luis (Sp?) #83, his wife Giovanna Domenica Asta was born a male child to which is given the name Giuseppe.

Benedetto Luigi Pantorno Birth Record: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... at=2387646[/list]

Act #486. September 25, 1910. Appeared Giuseppe Pantorno, age 41, raised in Vizzini, told me that on September 20th of the current month, in the house Lombarda #4, [can't make out the hand-written sentence] was born a male child to which is given the name Benedetto Luigi. Annotation: Benedetto Pantorno is the legitimate son of Pantorno Giuseppe Filippo (is Filippo a middle name?) and Arfi Marianna. Married December 15, 1921 (? - this seems odd since the child was born in 1910, maybe I'm incorrect).

Act #486. September 25, 1910. Appeared Giuseppe Pantorno, age 41, living in Vizzini, tailor, told me that on September 20th of the current month, in the house Lombarda #4, from his union with an unmarried woman, no related to him ... was born a male child to which is given the name Benedetto Luigi. Annotation: Benedetto Pantorno was recognized to be the legitimate son of Pantorno Giuseppe Filippo (is Filippo a middle name?) and Arfi Marianna, when they married on December 15, 1921 (? - this seems odd since the child was born in 1910, maybe I'm incorrect).

Thank you! Wow, so Benedetto was born out of wedlock essentially? I wonder why Giuseppe and Marianna didn't marry until 12 years later. Are there any other documents I should look for to get more details on this?

Also, Would you say that Filippo is Giuseppe's middle name (from the side annotation)? And on that side annotation, what does the August 28, 1922 date refer to?

Are there any other documents I should look for to get more details on this? Here is the marriage record: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... at=2387646 from which you can see that Giuseppe and Marianna legitimated 2 kids born out of wedlock, Benedetto and Carmela whose birth was recorded Nov 13 1912

Also, Would you say that Filippo is Giuseppe's middle name (from the side annotation) ? In Italy there is no middle name And on that side annotation, what does the August 28, 1922 date refer to? This is the date when the annotation was written.
There is also another annotation stating that on 18 Oct 1932 Benedetto married Giovanna Asta. The marriage record is here: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... at=2387646

Thank you! Also I was going through Benedetto's birth record again, I believe his birth date is September 22, not the 20th, correct? "del di ventidue del corrente mese"
