write to Spezzano for their birth certificates by sending an italian form letter requesting the birth record from Spezzano ( I am assuming that there is no other name attached to Spezzano and that it is located in the province of Modena, Emilia Romagna region of northern Italy. All other Spezzano have an attachment and are all in Calabria)). Go to www.italianancestry.com in part 3 for the form letters. Mail to Ufficio di Stato Civile, Comune di Spezzzano, Postale 41040, Provincia Modena, Emilia Romagna region, Italy. Include a self adddressed envelope and eithjer a !0.00Euro check or postal coupons even though the service is free (They may return it but it is suggested since overseas requests have low priority) and make check out to Ufficio di Stato Civile, Spezzano. Once yhou have birth records then you can request a CERTIFICATO DI STATO DI FAMIGLIA for either father of Luigi or Assunta. Bear in miond that Italy became a unified nation in 1872 and so civil records did not begin until 1873 in North of Italy. Only Southern Italy had civil records from 1803 when it was then the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Prior to these dates all records are in the churches. Peter

Thanks for your help and advice. Looking up my Great Grandmother's file at the Ellis Island site I found she lived in Spezzano, Piecolo, Italy. Now I have to figure out where that is in Italy.

Now that you checked out hewr arrival into the USA you fouind out that she came from SPEZZANO PICCOLO which is in the propvince of Cosenza, in the Calabria region of Italy. There are 10 Bafaro and 2 Casciaro surnamed persons in that town who are most likely your relatives. If you go to the left of this screen and under databases click locations in Italy and then type in the town name and click again for the town and there is a red icon which if you click on that icon a map of the town will appear for Calabria Italy and the town highlighted. Write to the Ufficio di Stato Civile, Comune di DSpezzano Piccolo, Postale 87050, Provnce of Cosenza, Calabria region, Italy for documents. You may also wish to write one letter in italian ( language dept in High school or nearby college) or in simple english to mail to each one and ask them if they are related to you. Enclkose a sefl addressed envelope with a dollar for stamps to encourage a reply. Peter NYC
