Translate 1857 Birth Record?

Post by mnaccarato »

At long last, I've finally found my 2nd Great-Grandfather Luigi Antonio Naccarato's birth record!! I see that the parents are Pasquale Naccarato and Rosaria Greco, can I get a translation on the rest please? Specifically, the occupation of Pasquale and the town he was domiciled in? Thanks!

Pasquale was a "bracciale"="labourer"
He lived in "Campagna - contrada Aurata" = "in the country, in a street, or area, named Aurata."

Thank you! Could you please translate the rest, as well? I also wonder why Luigi was born in Mendicino when the father was living in Campagna which is far away. Or could it just mean that Pasquale grew up/lived most of his life in Campagna and lives in Mendicino now? Hmmmmm

In this case, Campagna is NOT a town in the province of Salerno, but just means "in the country" (out of the village, in the fields)

Got it, how do you know that it doesn't mean the town?

Because it mentions one "contrada Aurata" that doen not exist in the town of Campagna, yet, it exists in Mendicino.
