Passport number?

Post by khoney »

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1923888

I located a ship manifest for Anthony Cerbone (line 3) arriving in New York on the Cristoforo Colombo 8 Aug 1956. Antony had become a naturalized citizen sometime between 1911 and 1915 so I am guessing the 72419 USA refers to his passport number and Italy as his place of birth. Before requesting a copy of his Passport I wanted to verify that the “72419” referenced is his Passport Number. I have located a description of the fields on early ship manifests but not this particular form so am asking help of the experts.

Thank you,
Karen

Thank you Jenny,

The number did in fact be the passport number. I obtained a copy of his passport application from the U.S. Department of State under a Freedom of Information Act request which took about four months. The application contained a great deal of information and was well worth the wait.

It is always a good idea to check the Naturalization database for NY area (http://italiangen.org/records-search/na ... ations.php) and for Brooklyn (https://www.jgsny.org/index.php/searcha ... -1907-1924).

Then you can request a copy directly at https://eservices.archives.gov/orderonline/start.swe

This is generally a lot quicker than NARA or FOIA request. Or even faster is someone does a ROAGK is they are visiting the NYC archives.

Thank you for your response.

I had looked at that site when trying to locate Anthony’s naturalization record however it only shows the Declaration. The Passport Application shows that he “was naturalized as a citizen of the United States before the Supreme Court of Bronx Co at Bronx New York on December 30th, 1914 as shown by the Certificate of Naturalization previously submitted.”

Unfortunately my FOIA requested only the application and not any attachments. I’ll know better the next time!
