ww1 military record translation

Post by nrepole »

Hi everyone!
Would love a translation of my relative's military record.
He died aged just 22 in WW1.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Giuseppe Patrissi – Class 1894

Drafted Soldier of the 1st Category, Class of 1894, District of Barletta and left on unlimited leave. - 30 JULY 1914

Called to the army and went. - 12 SEPTEMBER 1914

Assigned in the 1º Infantry Regiment – 22 SEPTEMBER 1914

Corporal in the 1º Infantry Regiment – 23 MAY 1915

Went in territory declared in state of war – 23 MAY 1915

I'm reading "di fuccola guardia veniva sorpresa addormentato" Maybe this means that he had fallen asleep holding a rifle, while on guard duty???? - 19 July 1915

Retrained as a soldier – 19 JULY 1915

Assigned in the 261º Infantry Regiment – 18 FEBRUARY 1917

Died in combat Monte S. Gabriele (Note 257) as per the Death Act inserted at ? 178 of the register of the Death Acts of the 161º Infantry Regiment. - 5 SEPTEMBER 1917

The above will probably need a bit of tweaking here and there.

Thanks Angela for your help!!! Very appreciated as always.
Yes, I had seen his name on the cadutigrandeguerra register previously but thank you anyway.
The record gets more personal in some ways with that little note that he had fallen asleep while on duty.
Very touching as the family has no photo or idea where he was buried (I'm still working on that).
Best wishes
Nick

Have you seen the death act? Didn't say where he was buried?

Hi cedrone! I just have a record of his death as noted in the records of his hometown, Rapone (Basilicata).
The death record does not seem to mention where he was buried, unless I missed it????

Nick, in the record, it says that he was killed as a result of a grenade explosion, so sadly maybe that is why there is no place of burial???? It mentions the place where he died in the record.

Hi Nick. I asked about the death act as I saw some other of soldiers of that war and the place of burial was indicated, probably the cemetery of the nearest village. In this case it seems it has not been possible, due to the death on a mount for an explosion during a battle and the act states only the declaration of some witnesses that were enough far from the explosion.
I'll look where this mount is. it would be useful to know what happened that day; I could think that he might have been buried, on the same mount or elsewhere, by the soldiers of the other side.
If you have not already made, additional info, if available, may be asked to the Ministry of Defense.

Where did you find the military record you posted?
Can you tell in which country you are and if there still are relatives in Italy?
The link to the form to ask more info has been posted above by mmogno.

Thank you everyone for your help. Really appreciated your efforts!

Cedrone, I found the death record on the familysearch.org website,
I live in Sydney, Australia but still have relatives in the town of Rapone in the province of
Potenza, Basilicata. They do not know anything about our long lost relative, Giuseppe Patrissi.
He was young, had not married yet...so no descendants. He was the brother of my great grandmother.
So I am not sure if the Italian authority would provide me with information if I were to fill
out the form posted by mmogno???? Would I qualify in this case??

Also, I have tried searching his name on http://www.cadutigrandeguerra.net/ but had no luck.
I also checked to see if he was buried at the Italian Charnel house in Slovenia but have not had a reply to
an email I sent them.

Best regards to all
Nick
