Translation of Marriage Registry for Giovanni Damiano & Nicola Barbato

Post by italianmom »

Please translate the following marriage registry: I had sent a previous request on August 20. The brides name was misspelled.

http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 3.jpg.html

Image 23 #21

Please provide the date, time and place of the marriage. Names of the bride, groom, parents and witnesses with their ages, occupations and where they lived.

From previous requests I noticed some witnesses were family but other times they were not and the names were the same. Are there people at the civil registry that are just there to be witnesses as a job?

Thank you very much!

And...
at that time, it was not as today and, also, church marriage was held more important by the spouses, who went to the Town Hall only because needed.
So, you may find relatives or family friends, but, also, people who used to spend their time near the Town Hall, clerks or people who worked for the Comune, or someone who played the role of the witness for some money.
