Re: Help needed with Birth Registration Saverio Dunia
Birth No 84: Saverio Donia
Oppido: 15 July 1851
Giacomo Donia (the father), 48 yo, bovaro (ox driver), living in Oppido, presented a baby boy who was born yesterday, 14 July 1851, 2 am, from himself, and his wife Caterina Pazzano?, 31 yo, worker, living in Oppido. The baby was given the name Saverio. He was baptised on 15 July 1851 by the Parish Priest of S. Nicola di Mira.

(These records are set out in alphabetical order, and the left-hand column is basically just keepiing a tally - it is not the number of the birth record. When the indices are set out this way, to look for the records, you have to go by the far right column which sets out the date of birth, which in this case isn't terribly clear, but you know that it is July because the preceding records is 7 July and there is a "d" straight below July. ("d" here is an abbreviation for the word detto - said))
Edit to Add: When you see the "d" think of it as being like a "ditto" mark: " Some times you may see the word "idem" (ditto) abbreviated to "id" meaning "the same" (ditto).

In the record I read Pozzano. (The index may read Pazzano)AngelaGrace56 wrote: 04 Oct 2020, 06:54 Birth No 84: Saverio Donia

I agree. It does look more like Pozzano in the record. The index can be either or really. I had checked the white pages and the name Pazzano doesn't seem to exist these days. The name Pozzano appears in the province. I wasn't really sure which was the correct spelling of the surname. Finding the marriage record of the parents might help to confirm the correct spelling.liviomoreno wrote: 04 Oct 2020, 07:47In the record I read Pozzano. I thank you both for your help. I am rather certain that Saverio, is my great great grandfather, and his father Giacomo is my g g g grandfather. It is the name that has me wondering. My Great grand father was listed as Giacomo Dunia Son of Saverio Dunio.Born in Oppido Mamertina on Dec 3 1873. And The sons and daughters of Giacomo, were listed as Dunia as well.I have more work to do!
My thanks to you both!

It is quite likely that the clerk made an error in the spelling of both surnames in question. Just keep a check as you are going through the indices.
