Is this the same Vincenzo Cascio

Post by rp76226 »

Is this the same Vincenzo Cascio:

I am trying to determine if the 1823 death record that I found for Vincenzo Cascio is the same person as the Vincenzo Cascio in page 3, point # 6 of his granddaughter's (Anna Maria Cascio) marriage record. The father of the granddaughter and son of Vincenzo Cascio,Giuseppe Cascio, died May 10 1831 and was married to Maria Gandolfa Scarpa (before 1820 – no civil records exist). Parents are not given in the 1831 death record for Giuseppe Cascio. Here are the links to these records:

Vincenzo Cascio 1823 death record (# 75 right hand side of page):

http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 1.jpg.html

Anna Maria Cascio 1843 Marriage Record Pages 2-3:

http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 3.jpg.html

Giuseppe Cascio 1831 death record – on right side of the page (Cascio names appearing are witnesses, not necessarily family):

http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 2.jpg.html

The two Cascio individuals in the record are not stated to be the parents of Giuseppe. They are witnesses who did not know how to write. The record states that the death act was inserted in two registers in the presence of the witnesses. The first, Gandolfo lo Cascio, age 60, was a peasant living in the district of Sant'Angelo. The second lo Cascio (first name looks like Iluminato), age 34, was also a peasant living there. The record states that the town official received notice of Giuseppe's death. I don't see any parents' names given in the record. We know that this is the right person because his widow remarried in 1834 and the Allegati records mentioned that her first husband was Giuseppe Cascio who died May 10, 1831.

It appears that they are the same individual. The allegati have some really good info.

Vincenzo Cascio death, 1823, included in the allegati for Anna Maria's marriage.

I know that Allegati records can be very useful, but not being fluent in Italian, I find Allegati records impossible to navigate, especially since there are no indexes. I just know or have written down a few key words, months, and numbers in Italian with their English translations which normally are found on birth, marriage, and death records. This doesn't work well for Allegati records.

Let me see if I can figure out what you sent me.

On Vincenzo Cascio, it appears to be another death record that agrees with the death record that I have.

On Maria Scarpa, this record you gave me was created on January 13, 1826 and seems to be for the birth of her daughter Anna Maria. Maria Scarpa was 20 years old. It mentions her husband's name as Giuseppe Cascio and her parents as Santo Scarpa and Gandolfa Pantino?. The father matches but the mother should be Rosaria Prima per her 1843 promise to marriage record (document #42) to Ignazio Termini. Or is this part the witness section.

Taken together, how did you come to the conclusion that the Vincenzo Cascio mentioned in the granddaughter's marriage record that I submitted is the same Vincenzo Cascio as the 1823 death record for Vincenzo Cascio? I do not see a common link yet, which likely, if it exists, would be a link to Giuseppe Cascio.

Re-reading what you said, I apparently paid too much attention to the actual death record in the Allegati that you provided and missed your preface that it was included in Anna Maria Cascio's marriage. therefore, since the Allegati death record matched the civil death record that I had found, this is the same Vincenzo Cascio in both places. Thank you.

Thanks. On the family consent, maternal relatives, the first one should be Luciano Badagliacca. I inadvertently added an "s" on the original.
