Have your results changed on Ancestry.com?

Since the latest update, my Ancestry DNA results changed a bit.

My DNA is now showing exactly 50 percent Italian from my mother's side from Northern Italy, Campania, and Molise. The 50 percent from my father's side is from Northern and Western Ireland, England, and Flanders/Netherlands.

The changes were the addition of Northern Italian (quite a bit), English, and Northern France "transformed" to Flanders/Netherlands. (My paternal grandmother's family were from Northern France/Flanders/Southern Netherlands.)

My mother's DNA is now showing as 100 percent Italian. Her Northern Italian has increased on the update significantly.

Since DNA kits have become common Christmas gifts in recent years, I suspect more updates are on the way.

I see no changes to mine other than "communities" being added in the USA. Keep in mind Ancestry note's below each % of heritage that it's an estimate that can range from 0 to X %.

I have completed several DNA tests, Ancestry's results on % heritage are inconsistent with the others and the location is not the same. For example 23andme lists the regions, stronger to weaker, Calabria is the strongest, but it also list Piedmont (only Northern region), which is noted as being weaker. I know Calabria is accurate, because that's where my family came from, at least back to as far as I traced to the 1850's. I'm only Italian on my Mother's side, so mtDNA is all I can use. 23andme also show's a small % of Greek heritage, which aligns with many in Southern Italy.

Ancestry on the other hand, just list's a blob over Northern Italy with a darker smaller blob over Emilia-Romagna & Tuscany.

LivingdDNA.com shows Tuscany and Northern Italy only, supposedly their database is more European, but suggest you upload your DNA to see the differences, it's free and also notes better results for the British Isles.

FamilyTreeDNA on the other hand shows the entire country of Italy, and while they have a map feature that shows HVR1 & 2, I have found it of little use as 1) people migrated over hundreds of years & 2) matches can go back hundreds of years.

I forgot about the US "communities" on Ancestry. It added my exact birth place. Was it accurate for you?

My mother's Northern Italian (on Ancestry) is a big blob with a smaller blob in Lombardy with an overlap in Trentino-Alto Adige and Southern Switzerland. Mine is just a big blob in Northern Italy/Southern Switzerland.

I've been considering a 23&Me test. That company seems to be the most accurate.

I read your post earlier and have since uploaded my DNA to LivingDNA. My friend did as well. My results just say 100 percent European. No details. His results say 80 percent European and 20 percent Near Eastern. (His family is from Calabria and Sicily.) I think you have to upgrade to get more detailed info. If it's only a few dollars, it's worth it. I'll check it out tomorrow.

Have you tried DNALand? It has a more detailed free breakdown. Not super specific but specific enough for totally free. You could upload from Ancestry or 23&Me.

Yes, "Communities" is indeed, quite accurate for me.

My Mother's 23andme results show other regions in Italy that mine did not show as well.

I have not tried DNALand, only uploaded my DNA to Gedmatch, but closest relative is 4th degree which is quite far back. I'll have to check that out...
