Thank you so very much for offering to help.
Apologies for the delay however, I didn’t receive a notification of your reply. I must remember to check on here regularly.
The only information I have for Nicolaus is that once in Australia, he Married a lady named Catherine Evans in 1901 and in Australia he was a plasterer. (Info Found in national archive) it was Arthur’s ex wife (my great Nanna who he abandoned) who told us she believed his father was from Lammari but once Arthur disappeared, there seems to have never been a trace seen or heard from him again in Australia. There was a warrant out for his arrest for wife abandonment however, he was never found.
Arthur served in the Australian navy in WW1 so was quite the able seaman so speculation is that he left the country.
I did find a record in the USA for an Arthur but year of birth wasn’t correct. It’s quite remarkable how his simply disappeared. All his bank accounts were emptied the day he went missing also my great Nanna informed. Not only was my nona one years old but Olga Gianinni was pregnant with my uncle Len at the time Arthur went missing also so my great uncle never met his father.
Although Arthur is my great grandfather, his genes are strong. My nona looked like a sweet Italian lady, my father looked like ‘Mario’ from Mario cart and I have the olive skin, dark hair and eyes also. The Italian gene not really fading until my children’s generation with three of my 4 kids being blond haired, fair skinned with freckles. The eldest of my boys however looks exactly like my father!!
One clue for Arthur is that he was more widely known as ‘Darky’ (said affectionately) around Sydney and during this naval service

Hi Marty,
I ran this record by my cousin who believes this is Nicolaus’s nephew (also named Arthur Giannini) who served in the war that died in Watkins Glen USA. I’m not doubting your research but was wondering if the record you found for Arthur in Watkins Glen gave a DOB for Arthur?
I have found a photo of the grave but it gave not date of birth unfortunately.
If he made it to the states though from Australia without leaving via official channels, this is incredible! As there was a warrant out for his arrest haha. I’m thinking Arthur suffered ‘shell shock’ and struggled with civilian life as a dad of three kids post the war so used his sailer skills to offer services on some other gents ship and got out of the country as crew if this Watkins Glen grave is his!
I have fallen across another stumbling block though and this is in regards to how to access Italian records?
I’d love to also learn more about Giovanni Giannini born 1835c in Bagni di Lucca and his wife Pellegrina Fabbri (my great x3 grandparents) however, I wouldn’t have a clue on where to begin to find records from italy. If you know of any sites I may access that hold records, I’d be eternally grateful!
