Pistoia Roadblock

Post by ForzaItaliaPgh »

Ciao tutti,

My search has floundered with my Great Grandfather’s records, although I have the names of his parents and grandfathers. Our family is from Lucca, or at least that’s where my GGF was born. It seems like his father may have moved from Pistoia. Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can continue the search, aside from paying an on-site genealogist? The relevant info is:

My Great Grandfather's Birth Certificate
Name: Dino, Paolo, Giovanni Barontini
Date: 8 August 1897
Place: Lucca
Father: Leopoldo
Mother: Ida Lippi

My Great Grandfather's Baptismal Record
Name: Giov. Dino, Paolo, Luigi Barontini
Date: 15 Aug 1897
Place: San Giovanni, Lucca
Father: Leopoldo fu Antonio of this parish
Mother: Ida di Torello of this parish
Godfather: Ferranti Paolo
Godmother: Ghiselli Adelaide

Birth Certificate of one of his Brothers
Name: Gino Giovanni Fortunato Barontini
Date: 2 October 1887
Place: Lucca
Father: Leopoldo
Mother: Ida Lippi

Baptismal Certificate of the same Brother
Name: Giov. Gino-Fortuanto Barontini
Date: 3 October 1887
Place: San Giovanni, Lucca
Father: Leopoldo di Antonio Barontini di Vicofaro (Pistoia)
Mother: Ida Lippi di Torello di Vicofaro (Pistoia)

I also have another brother and a sister’s birth certs, but they provide no additional info.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks in advance!!

Grazie mille

Since the mother Ida Lippi is from Pistoia (recorded on Gino's birth record) you can probably find their marriage there. The problem is that these records are restricted to LDS research centers, many of which are closed right now. From this info you can also tell that the paternal grandfather Antonio Barontini died between 1887-1897, possibly in Lucca.

Antonio Barontini, 75, died 5 Jan 1894, born in Pistoia, son of Marco Barontini & Anna Pratesi, widower of Teresa Masi
