I also understand that the manifests were completed by Italians at the port of departure. The topic has come up at various times on this forum over the years.
For what it's worth, Ancestry.com transcribes it as "father". They have mis-spellings of the person's surname, the final destination, the person in US, etc. so I don't know how much you can trust. The important point for me is whether Aurelio Sarcia's father was Giuseppe Sarcia from Floridia, regardless of the wording used.
