I've recently come to a rather scary theory that could really put a hole in my previous genealogy research. I started out my research just finding the church baptism and marriage records for all my my paternal lineage. As of this week, I bagan looking for the death records for these people as well. However, when I came to my ancestor Michele Rosolino Biundo I found that the age on the death record didn't add up with the other records. On his death record all the information adds up (his spouse, parents, etc.), BUT it says that he died at age 80. According to his Baptism record that I have it says that he should've died at age 75. I know that the tradition of naming the first born male after the paternal grandfather was considered important in that day and age, and if a child died in infancy, the next male would still be named after the grandfather sometimes.
So, I wanted to ask all the thoughts of everyone here regarding the following records...do you think they are all for the same person? or do I have a different baptism? And do you think this theory something I should be concerned about?
Thank you so much for your help,
Salvatore Biondo

Re: All Records for Same Person?
I've not looked at the records yet, but I can say that death records are not affordable as to the age of the deceased. You can find differences up to 10 or 15 years. The age of most of the people was not REALLY known, and the priest wrote just a guess. In fact, if you take a look at death record, I think you will find "rounded" ages in most of them, i.e. they are said to be 70, or 80, or 45. You will hardly find someone who is, let's say, 66.

I agree with Pippo, five year-difference in recorded age isn't unusual.
You also can take into consideration the informants - were they close relatives or just neighbors or others?

What I said applies to civil records more than church records.
