Help finding GG Grandfather
Help finding GG Grandfather
Hello! I need some help with locating my Great Great Grandfather, Anthony Cozzone. Based on his draft cards, he was born in April 1878 or 1879 in Venafro, Italy. He died in New Jersey in 1971. As of now, that's the only information I have. I'm going to try the Antenati webside. Familysearch is only giving me the same documents. I'd like to find his ship manifeso and his birth act. Also, I know some Italians changed their names at some point. Would I have better luck searching for "Antonio Cozzone"? Im assuming the surname is spelled the right. Thanks for any help, leads or advice!

Re: Help finding GG Grandfather
I don't believe that Antenati has records from the Province of Isernia online. If you're looking for Italian records he would almost certainly have been listed as Antonio or Antonino. Anthony would have been the Americanized version of his Italian name. Social Security death records show his birth date as April 20, 1878, and death as March 1971. His naturalization petition says his birth date was April 28, 1878 in Venafro. That petition gives his wife's place of birth also as Venafro on July 10, 1882, and also lists the names and birth dates of his 7 children. He arrived in the U.S. aboard the S.S. Bolivia on August 24, 1899. He was living in Chicago in 1914. Looks like he was in Chester, PA at the time of the 1930 census. His marriage record on January 28, 1935 to second wife, Mary Cimena indicates that his first wife died in June of 1928. Hope some of this helps.

His wife's name is Amelia, and she also appears as Millie on his naturalization petition

Thank you!! I'll see if this information can get me somewhere. I'll have to keep checking the Antenati website. Would there be any specific reason why they wouldn't have those records yet?bbivona wrote: 24 Aug 2019, 18:16 I don't believe that Antenati has records from the Province of Isernia online. Hello Amanda. I'm writing you from Venafro, the birthplace of your GGG.
His first italian name was certainly "Antonio" (possibly shortened as "Tonino" in informal speech).
There is a possibility that his surname was misspelled, the actual one being "Cuzzone" (it is a relatively common surname in Venafro).
So his actual official full name could have been "Antonio Cuzzone".
In this record, there is an Antonio Cuzzone born in Venafro on April 17, 1878:
http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... ewsIndex=0
( Although this other document possibly records April 15 as birthdate instead: http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... ewsIndex=0 ).
I have first hand info that an "Antonio Cuzzone" from Venafro left for the USA in the 1890s/1900s. Unfortunately, I don't have more info on whether he left alone, with his wife, or whether he remained there or came back to Italy.
If I'm allowed to post FB links, this would be his Great Grandson:
https://www.facebook.com/lorenzo.cuzzone
EDIT: This would be his entry on the ship manifest (note the birthplace misspelled as "Venapo", which is non-existing):
EDIT: Oh, I see someone already found most of those infos on another thread you started.

Do you think it would be ok if I contacted Lorenzo on facebook? I would love to talk with him and see if he has any questions about his great grandfather that I might be able to answer for him. I speak and understand a little Italian but will most likely need the help of a translator.
Re: Help finding GG Grandfather
Sure, I think no harm in contacting him (he's been my classmate many years agoAmandaP wrote: 12 Oct 2021, 02:42 Do you think it would be ok if I contacted Lorenzo on facebook? I think using Google translator would be fine to undestand each other.
Let me know if you need further help.

I sent him a friend request and a message explaining our relation to Antonio. I also sent a picture of his birth record and a picture of Antonio's daughter (my great grandmother). If I'm correct, I believe she would be Lorenzo's half great grandaunt. If you still have contact with Lorenzo, would you be able to tell him to check his "message requests" on facebook? I know sometimes people don't know to check those. Thank you again for all of your help
Re: Help finding GG Grandfather
Well, unfortunately I have not personal contacts with him anymore. But hopefully, he will read and reply to your message!
Re: Help finding GG Grandfather
Hello! Very late to seeing this post, but the Antonio Cozzone you mentioned is the older brother of my GGG grandfather. I don't know if I have the exact information you've requested here but I do have a mostly-complete Cozzone tree passed down to me by my grandfather's cousin. If you ever want to look into some Cozzone family genealogy, I'd be happy to compare resources.
