Unknown occupation..?

Post by MarcuccioV »

I'm trying to decipher the occupation of a witness to my grandparent's marriage act. The witness' surname comes up as a DNA match to me which I haven't yet connected.

The closest I can get is "vigoriente", which translates to "in force". Can anyone figure this out..?

The same person is listed on his marriage act as a "sensale" (broker). I did find out he married my grandmother's aunt; thereby the connection...

Could it be "negoziante" (dealer)..?

Can you post a link to the image or at least post more of the image? It often helps to see handwriting in other words to see idiosyncrasies in the characters of the scrivener.

Negoziante was what I was going to guess, but was hoping to see a little more of the document to be more sure. I'm not getting any more confident from the other image - can't really even read what comune it is, but negoziante seems plausible.

Commune is Valmontone (Lazio). I find this writer quite often around this time period. Very flamboyant script.

I agree it is most likely "negoziante", based on the earlier occupation of "sensale". It makes sense.

Thank you, bbivona.
