Military Records

Post by darkerhorse »

I thought there was a working link to Italian military records at surnamesinitaly.com but now I can't find a link that works.

Any suggestions?

This might work. Haven't used it in years. Now requires an application with a valid ID. Never did before and worked great previously when I used it. Appears initially in Italian, but I have Chrome automatically translating the website to English. Used to search by surname only and it would give all the people in alphabetical first name order by surname.

That looks like deaths during war.

I was looking for registrations like liste di lava or drafts.

The link that I've previously utilized for that now says the website is for sale.

I think that you have to write to the town to get military records now:

These documents are at the Archivio di Stato of every province, only few are online, look at details on the website of every Archivio or the corresponding page on Antenati.
As said, only few are online, for instance Como for a certain period but without index, so it's difficult to find what you need, they are hundreds of pages.
It's better to ask a search at the Archivio [it seems they have indexes],
follow instructions if any on the site of the Archivio you need,
otherwise ask a search of the name you need giving estimated period of birth: when I asked to the Archivi of two towns, Como and Varese, they replied quickly giving a link to the documents, if found and online.

You should enclose a copy of your Identity Document (two sides is better).

Actually I have contacted Ann & follow her. She helped me with the Marriage record [the long story] of my bisnonna e bisnonno, as I had found their Marriage record here, actually some one here sent me a link to Antenati years ago. I've checked her site for military records, but think I'll try it again, with your link
So Thanks a bunch n vada con dio a tutti.

Also thanks to Each of you who'e responded - I have 2 to hunt, one in the Bersaglieri ca 1869 - 1899 [I've written them, no response] & for my "grandfather" - e nonno [he didn't want to be called nonno, he 'was American now} in WWI, but I don't know where he served.
But I'll keep at it, thanks again to all of you for your help & places to search.

Mille grazie e vada con dio a tutti. & buon feste a tutti.
