Buona giornata

Dear Peter,

Unfortunately, Italy has no equivalent to the US national social security death index. All records in Italy are registered, kept, and available only at the town (commune) level. Thus, to access any information you must know the name of the town. Even national census records which began in 1911, the statistical data is held at the national level, but the personal data is maintained in each town at the anagrafe office.

This is the reason why all research in Italy has to begin at the town or parish.

I hope that this answers your inquiry,

best regards, Trafford
