On my Great Grandfather Antonio Loverro's naturalization document it said that he came to Boston March 8, 1909 on the S.S. Romanic from Naples. I found him listed in the Boston, Massachusetts, U.S., Book Indexes to Passenger Lists, 1899-1940 and it says Group 21, Number 17.

I can't find him on the ship manifest, though. Any tips?

What i did is go to Ancestry.com and do an exact match search for Antonio arriving March 8, 1909 in Boston. I left last name blank suspecting they had transcribed it wrong. I also could have left the first name blank in case it was also transcribed wrong. It would just result in a larger list to peruse.
Next, I selected passenger lists and then I selected Massachusetts, U.S., Arriving Passenger and Crew Lists, 1820-1963, and finally i perused the results. Ancestry had transcribed him as "Antonio Lovern". His origin of Bari matched the naturalization record so I figured it was him.
You can try this method in the future for other searches. Sometimes I enter the name of the ship or departure port too.
Another method would be to find others with names easier to spell on that same passenger booking list and then search for them on passenger lists. If you can find others who were on the same ship then you can peruse the manifests for your relative.
It pays to experiment with searches - exact versus non-exact matches etc. and to be creative.
Or you can just ask in the forum!

Thanks, those are excellent tips. I can't find the Loverro family in the 1920 census so I should try alternate/partial spellings and see if that does it.
