Anyone have information on Dellario?

Hello all , Heres some info from my side of this tree . leave it to me to wait until im 28 years old to start mapping out the whole family .


My great grandfather was Cataldo Dellario , He came to america from sicily at the age of 16 to find his brother who was already over here from what i was told . He worked in the coal mines in Pittston PA most of his life and also owned a small cigar shop .

He married Josephine Mendola they lived on market st in pittston pa .

They had The following 7 children :

Antoinette Delario
Louis Delario
Catherine Delario
Anne Dellario
Joeseph Dellario
Rosemary Dellario
Geno Dellario

Also My great Grandfather Cataldo Dellario Took in a neice of his who came from the old country , Her Name Was Josephine also , if theres any confusion of the ages of two josephines in the household . I dont remember if her last name was Dellario or not but I do know she married into the Sauter Family . I believe thats spelled correctly but im not 100 % on that. My grandfather (Geno Dellario) Is the youngest at age 74 ,
(Antoinette and Joseph are deceased )

If anyone has any questions I will try to answer them the best I can with the help of my grandfather and other family older family members .

My grandfather was Cologero Dell'aria from Serradifalco, Sicily. His brother was Cataldo Dell'aria-my great uncle. They lived in Pittston, PA My father was Cataldo Dellario, son of Cologero. The name change occured when my father entered school in Pittston. All those born after my father used Dellario,all those born before used Dell'aria.It was a bit confusing. Cologero and his brother were estranged for an number of years over a real estate dispute,however at the end of Cologero's life,the brothers reconciled and spent countless hours together. My Uncle Cataldo (nee Uncle Kye) and Aunt Jo were very kind to me and we visited often. Uncle Kye was a gentle soul and I enjoyed his company. Geno was my first cousin once removed and we also were well acquainted. My sister,Anita Dellario,was Rosemary's flower girl at her wedding. Wend18 is her daughter.Cologero's children included Louis, Charles, Antoinette, Emilia,Venerina, Cataldo( also Kye), Carmela and Angelo.One child, Philomena died very young.She was near my father in birth order.My grandmother was Guiseppina (formerly Bellavia) also from the Serradificalco area.I have a bunch of first cousins,numerous first cousins once removed and so on. Louis, Charles, Emilia, Carmela ,Antoinette and Venerina settled in Trenton,NJ. My dad moved to Clarks Summit, PA and Angelo stayed in Pittston. My grandfather was married 3 times. My grandmother died at about 50 years old from complications of diabetes;his second wife Grandma Theresa died soon after they were married. For his third wife, he went back to Sicily and found and married Grandma Nina who was quite a few years younger and outlived him. My grandfather was a character and a bit of a rogue but we got along great. My name is Donald J. Dellario and I live near Baltimore MD.I have no idea where the name Donald came from but my mom said she liked the sound of the name. This caused a bit of a contraversy in that my Grandmother Guiseppina Dell'aria was a devout Catholic and devoted to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. She wanted me to be named Carmen. This was never reconciled with my mother. Interesting times.I remember well my days spent in Pittston at Grandpa Dell'aria's house and spending time with my first and second cousins.My second cousins (Cataldo (Cal), Rosina and Raymond Maira who were Uncle Kye's daughter Antoinette's were good friends as well as cousins. Although I grew up in Clarks Summit, my roots run deep in Pittston. My mother's side of the family was also in Pittston, so every Sunday was our Pittston. day. Pittston was a hardscrabble coal town with a large Italian population.It seemed like everyone knew everyone else and all the grandmothers were everybody's grandmother. It was a different time and culturally very Italian in nature. A classic immigrant story and their assimilation into America. My generation was not taught the Italian language because it was seen as a sign of our ignorance. To be fully America meant to give up your native language and assume the trappings of the American culture. This is a loss I will always regret. Your breaksown of my Uncle Kye's family is correct. I am trying to trace back my family heritage as well.
Great grandfather: Calogero (Charles) Dellario
Born 1886 died 1953
Parents: Sasquale/Pascale Dell’Ario and Josephine Dell’Ario (maiden name Pecora?)
Great Gramdmother: Guiseppina (Josephina) Lazzari/Lazzaro/Lazzara
Born 1887 died 1958
Parents: Pasquale and Francesca (unknown maiden name)

They immigrated from Calascibetta Sicily 1910-1912 and lived in Kansas City Missouri.

There are several spelling variations of Dellario and I’m trying to track down accurate info further back

Thanks so much everyone and special thanks to you don , you helped me map put your side of our very large family . at this point im trying to map out the family in the old country as well as mapping out my great grandfather cataldo's wife josephine Mendola's family which is a complete mystery ... I remember when my uncle Steven Dellario( Geno Dellario's son , Geno the youngest of cataldos children ) was in the navy he asked her who they were and where they were in sicily/italy as he was going to thsose countries and she told him not to look for them and wouldnt give him any names.

I also saw something about your grandfather cologero and his brother (my great grandfather ) cataldo coming here to find their fathers brother in law Francesco Lo Piano in Manhattan. In one of the posts on page 1 on this forum topic of our family if i read it correctly and wondering what ties that person may have to the family and family in the old country. I heard stories of something similar like of them coming to the US to look for a brother that passed away not sure if thats true or not

Wondering if this is a cousin or possible brother of cataldo and calogero as its within years of their births.

Hello don . i have some exciting news . i found great grandpa cataldo nd gg josephine (mendola) dellarios marriage records and found out both of their parents names

Cataldo and cologeros father was Luigi Dell'Aria. And their mother was Antonia Aquilina. Or spelled Aqulehina although its been mispelled Del Laria as is cataldos on the marraige license
Josephine (mendola) Dellario's parents are listes as Salvatore Mendola and Catherin Sorce.

I am now able to trace us to possibly many other distant cousins and ancestors now all i need to do is find your grandfather my great uncles marraige license to confirm if he listed their parents names on it . which shouldnt be too hard seeing as i found my great grandparents

The tree goes back to the parents of Luigi Dell'Aria and all the way down to my children .

Luigi had 6 living sons with wife antonia aquilina . Cataldo, Calogero , Salvatore, Angelo, Leonardo , Giuseppe . I believe all except Salvatore Immigrated to the usa . I am now trying to find these great uncles of mine and their families to current date to add to the list ...
