Bova Marina, Calabria

Post by delfgill »

Hi,

Has anyone heard of an area called Peristerea (Luogo di Colombi) in S. Pasquale within Bova Marina (Calabria)?

Any information greatly appreciated.

Peristerea is a toponym located halfway between Bova and Palizzi. In Google Earth you can find it using the following coordinates: 37 degrees 58 minutes 13.84 seconds North and 15 degrees 57 minutes 03.49 seconds East. The area is since long uninhabited. The Provincial road 164/165 passes through it, but that road has not been kept up to date in 100 years and can only be traveled on foot. I tried it by bike, but had to walk. There is a waterfall and a bridge over the Fiumara of Palizzi. The area is gorgeous.

Fiumara of Palizzi
is wrong. It is the Fiumara di S. Pasquale.

Thank you very much for the corrected response! My uncles always say Peristerea is in S. Pasquale.

I have a photo of the family home and often wonder if the structure still exists. I plan to visit the area next year and hope to at least find the dirt road where the home once stood.

Thanks again! Much appreciated.

Where one toponym ends and the other begins is often vague. The hamlet of San Pasquale is on the coast and turns inland into Peristerea. There is a road there that goes inland, but it ends in a dead end and that road does not get to the waterfall of Peristerea. Maybe the family house is on that road.
If the house is not there, you can get there via the old road from Bova Marina to Bova. This road starts on the east side of Bova Marina and climbs about eight kilometers up to Bova. After about 5 or 6 kilometers you will come to a restaurant called "Cielo di Bova". There you turn right and go down steeply. The road there is narrow but good. After about 2 km of descending you come to the bridge over the Fiumara di San Pasquale. There is Peristerea. You can then continue to Palizzi, but that road is only passable on foot because of the many and deep holes, but the nature and the panorama make up for everything. Recommended!
