I am looking to possibly connect the following person to my tree.
Domenico Cipriani born about 1765 marries Giacinta Fantasia.
Resided in Raiano for at least a portion of his life. His children born/married in Raiano.
I believe he is deceased prior to 1810. I would need his fathers name to determine if connected (death record, marriage record).
I am connected to but need parents of Pietro Cipriani born about 1744, married to Cristina Fasciani (parents needed). Resided in Raiano for at least a portion of life.
Thanks,
Carol
Cipriani of Raiano
Re: Cipriani of Raiano
Hi Carol,
I recently came upon your post about a Cipriani family member from Raiano. It's 5 years old so I hope you are still active on this site!
I am trying to find more information about one of my family memberers (and their family) from the same town. Here is what I know:
My maternal great grandmother was named Elisabetta Cipriani. From New York City records (she was married to my great grandfather Salvatore Ceraolo (or Ceroala or Cerola, the spelling appeared different in different records) I found that she was born in Raiano, L'Aquila about 29 July 1887, and died 14 March 1939 in New York. She immigrated to the US (through Ellis Island) in 1904 or 1905. Her parents were named Donato Cipriani and Eleonora Dividia. I have no other info about her parents or family and am wondering if any of those names have come up in your ancestry search.
Look forward to hearing from you,

Re: Cipriani of Raiano
Though I have not been on the site in a long time....I did receive your information.
My grandchildren are currently visiting..... I will see what I have in my records and respond but it may take a week or so.
If I have some down time I will get to it sooner as this stuff is my addiction.
Best,
Carol Cipriani

Re: Cipriani of Raiano
Thank you so much for your reply, Carol and look forward to hearing back from you. I too am fascinated by this stuff! I should also mention that growing up in the Bronx, NY there was a Cipriani family that lived in our neighborhood. That was way before I knew I had any Cipriani blood....
Enjoy your grandchildren's visit.

Re: Cipriani of Raiano
Hey.....I believe we share common ancestors!
As you probably have noticed there are not many Italian names that start with "d" as in Dividio.
That being said, I recalled many Ovidio families in the Raiano records. It was not a big stretch to
consider di Ovidio or Ovidio as a likely possibility.
Elenora Ovidio was born February 24, 1847 in Raiano to Venanzio Ovidio and Anna Domenica (sometimes Maria Domenica and sometimes Domenica) Pietrosante.
her siblings (Elenora) include Donato Ovidio born in 1845
Maria Teresa Ovidio born 1843
Vincenzo Ovidio born 1841 (error in 1841 birth index says Francesca Cipriani is the mother but the birth record is correct stating Domenica Pietrosante is the mother).
I am confident (a marriage record would confirm) that the Donato Cipriani you inquired about is the son of Domenico Cipriani and Catterina de Angelis. Donato was born in Raiano, February 21, 1840.
So I have two questions for you.....
1. I assume you use Family Search ? If so you should able to search Donato Cipriani, Raiano, Italy and he should come up on my tree. You should be able to see all ancestors through the Cipriani line. Be sure to click all the arrows because not everything shows up on one screen.
2. Do you use Atenati...if not just Google it. There are many records there not available through Family Search. Great site if your family came from different areas in Italy. There are no online records prior to 1809..unless you write to a church or commune.
I have not looked at marriage records for that time frame yet...but you should be able to find the marriage record for Venanzio Ovidio and Anna Domenica Pietrosante. The record should provide you with the names of each ones parents. If you need help...let me know.
I am still working on trying to untangle the Domenico Cipriani's. But your Donato happened to be related to one I am sure about. That being said....there seems to be at least 2 Venanzio Ovidio's in Raiano during this time period...there is a difference in age of about 10 years. Be careful as you search the records.
Best,
Carol
