I am looking at page 60 image 111 for Giovanna Nicolina Cassarà alias lo Sardo. Can somone explain what the "alias lo Sardo" refers to? Lucrezia's, the mom, last name is Pinnicco, not Sardo, so I don't believe it refers to her maiden name. A couple of the other kids, but not all, in this family have this notation as well. The record is from Monreale, Sicily.
Thank you for any insight.

Alias usually refers to a family nickname, i.e. the name they were usually referred to: the "legal" surname was Cassara, but people called them "lo Sardo"

Re: Can someone help me with birth record
Thanks. That makes sense.
This may be a stupid follow up but I am hoping to cover all my bases...I was able to locate all of his siblings' birth records, but not his. There was a hint on Ancestry which had his DOB as 7/30/1665. I know these hints aren't always acccurate, so I always confirm with my own record. I was unable to locate it under "Cassara". However, after seeing there was an alias "lo Sardo", I looked under "S" in the index and located was a birth record for Francesco Cassara with parents of Antonino and Lucrezia Sardisco on 7/30/1665. Do you think it's a coincidence that the parents have the same name as Francesco's, or could this possibly be his birth record? It seems to good to be true that it's him but wanted to get a 2nd opinion.

Well, that could be. Can you post the image, or a direct link to it?

Re: Can someone help me with birth record
Here's the image for the possible birth record of Francesco.
Also, since my original post, I just started searching Francesco's parents, Antonino Cassara and Lucrezia Pinnico. I just found that Antonino's parent's are Paolo Cassara and Benedetta Sardisco (Francesco's grandparents). I'm attaching both their marriage record and index for the marriage records. On a side note, can you read the Benedetta's mother's anme in the marriage record.
I thought it was too good to be true, but after finding this marriage record, I'm feeling a bit more confident that perhaps the birth record for Francesco Sardisco is the right person, but would love your thoughts.
Thanks!

It's hard to read. It might be "Fiori", but just a guess.
Also, I don't understand what's the last attachment.

Re: Can someone help me with birth record
Sorry...as I'm reading my posts, I realized I missed a step...so here's a summary of the background, Francisco Cassara (my 7th great-grandfather) is the son of Antonino and Lucrezia Cassara. The original post was about his sibling Giovanna that had the name "Cassara alias lo Sardo" and I was wondering what the alias meant.
My next reply was referring to her sibling Francisco and whether it was possibly that his birth record would use the surname of "Sardisco". I located all of Francesco's siblings baptism records, but not his. There was a hint on Ancestry which had his DOB as 7/30/1665. I know these hints aren't always acccurate, so I always confirm with my own record. I was unable to locate it under "Cassara". However, after seeing there was an alias "lo Sardo", I looked under "S" in the index and located was a birth record for "Francisco" with parents of Antonino and Lucrezia Sardisco on 7/30/1665. Francisco had a sibling born in 1662 and the next in 1667, so a birth in 1665 is certainly possible. All of his siblings were located under "Cassara".
After I posted my reply on 8/5, I located the marriage records for Paolo Cassara and Benedetta Sardisco, who are Francisco Cassara's grandparents. The birth record attached in my last reply is for Francisco Sardisco (#183 on the right) , which I think may really be Francisco Cassara.
The query is whether it's a reasonable conclusion that Francisco Sardisco is Francisco Cassara based on all of the above information located. Is this coincidence that the parents of "Francisco Sardisco" have the same name as Francisco's, or could this possibly be his birth record? It seems to good to be true that it's Francesco Cassara, but wanted to get a 2nd opinion.
I hope this makes sense. Thank you for your thoughts.

Oh, yes, I think that can be!
It's possible that the priest wrote mother's surname instead of father's.
It was my mistake: I had just read "Nicola", and didn't see "Fran.co" over it!

Thanks for your thoughts! I was hopeful on this too, so I'm going to use it, but document how I came my conclusion.
Thank you!
