Baptism translation

Post by sybilhosek »

Hello,

I tried to post this last week but it was never approved for posting. Thought I'd try again. :)

Would anyone be able to help me translate the attached baptism record please?

Thanks,
Sybil

Record date: Sep 14, 1891
Carolus (Carlo), son of the spouses Giuseppe Simoncini and Rosa Aversa.
I read the baby was born "nudius xestus"; I think the priest (or who wrote the record) meant "nudius sextus", i.e., five days ago.
Godparents were Mariano Lombardo and Stefana Simoncini, daughter of the mentioned Giuseppe (i.e. a paternal aunt of the baby)

Thank you so very much!

My great-grandmother was Stefana Simoncini, and I thought her parents were Giuseppe and Rosa, making her Carlo's sister. However, the way this is written makes me think she is only the daughter of Giuseppe, maybe from a different relationship? Would that make sense?

Mother in not mentioned in her case, so that may or may not be. Do you know when she was born?

I'm having trouble finding her birth certificate, which is how I came across Carlo's baptism record. I believe she was born in 1879 based on immigration records (she came to the US in 1901 at the age of 22).

If I understand, the baptism is from Partinico.
I couldn't find her birth record in the registers of 1878 and 1879.
Maybe she was born elsewhere.

Yes, I had a request in to Partinico commune for her records and they searched many years and found nothing. I had always thought she was born there, so I'm now struggling to find her records. I also haven't found the marriage record of Giuseppe Simoncini and Rosa Agrusa (parents of Carlo), which might tell me when they were married and where - and parentage of Giuseppe.
