Uk-Italy next of kin situation

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Uk-Italy next of kin situation

Post by iam_roselyn24 »

hello all..

this situation recently occurred in a friend's family and I thought I might ask here... so, a friend's uncle, who was born in the UK but moved to Italy over 20 years ago, recently passed away unexpectedly and without leaving a will.. and now they’re struggling to figure out who his next of kin is and what the inheritance process will be.

Most of the family still lives in the UK but they’re unsure whether it's UK or Italian laws applying when it comes to inheritance...

She found lots about the concept of next of kin here but.. still not sure.

Has anyone had a similar experience with immigration between two countries? btw the uncle had no spouse or children..

grazie!

(it occures to me that maybe too many people die without a will.. how about an international day about it, so that we all get to sit down and make even a sketchy will, that will help after we're gonne..)

Hello,
if the deceased was officially residing in Italy, Italian laws apply.
However, I send you my email by PM for further advice.
