Help finding Rome Wedding certificates

Hello,

I am searching for more information (marriage/death certificates), and trying to ultimately find descendants on my great grandmother Lena Motta’s two brothers listed below:


- Arnoldo Celestino Motta born August 8, 1888 in Rome, Vicolo Spagnoli #24

- Luciano Cesare Batista Motta born July, 21, 1889 in Rome, Vicolo Spagnoli #24



My family had a fine leather goods/umbrella store in Rome from the late 1880’s to the 1910s.

When my great great grandfather, Ercole, who ran the umbrella shop and was an umbrella maker, died of a heart attack, the store tried but could not be run by the family, I was told.

After the umbrella store closing My great, great, grandma Rita Ravetta (wife of Ercole) and her daughters Velia, Celeste and Lena (my great grandmother) all immigrated to the US in 1914 to live with Rita’s son Ferruccio Motta.

When the umbrella store closed, the two sons listed above were the only ones to stay in Rome.

Any information would be greatly appreciated and so helpful!!

This is the marriage act for Arnaldo Motta, 32yo, son of Ercole (deceased) and Rita Ravetta (resident in Chicago) and Teodolinda Crugnolo, 30yo, daughter of Natale Vittorio Enrico and Aurelia Vandelli (deceased).

Arnaldo’s residence was initial written as Roma and then corrected as Londra.

These are the marriage banns.
In here Arnaldo is written as resident in Roma but at the bottom of the act it states that there was a power of attorney issued in London on 5th June regarding the groom.

So he was resident in London in that period.

This must be Arnoldo, who travelled to the USA in 1915, but was residing in London, UK

If you look at the following page, you'll see that he was born in Rome, and was going to Chicago to join uncle D. Ravetta

In 1921, he went to the USA again with wife Teodolinda, and was still residing in London.

I think there’s a mistake in dating the act and that she was actually born on 28th December 1889.

I had no idea about any of this!

Arnaldos brother Frank (who Arnaldo visited in America in 1921) married Antonietta Crugnolo in Rome in August 21, 1919. Arnoldo married Teodolinda Crugnolo August 18, 1921 in Rome. It seems as if Motta brothers have married Crugnolo sisters. How interesting!!!!!

I know that Frank Motta traveled back to Rome, from America, to marry Antonietta Crugnolo. And it seems Arnaldo traveled back to Rome, from London to marry Teodolinda Crugnolo.

This is all very exciting for me and my family to find out!!

I have a 3 DNA matches in that come up in England, and I was wondering how I could be related to them, now I'm thinking it might be the descendants of Arnaldo!!!!!! I am going to write them and find out, I'll keep you posted!



Any information on the other brother Luciano Motta?

I found a birth record for a son born to Arnaldo and Teodolinda on 16 May 1921 in Chicago Illinois named Enrico Mario Hercules Motta.

I cannot find anything else on Arnaldo, Teodolinda, and Enrico! I'm wondering if they went back to London.



Can you help find any records for the family, Arnaldo,Teodolinda and their son Enrico?



I also found a marriage record for Arnaldo's brother Luciano. Luciano married a woman named Alba Balconi on 14 April 1921 in Venice.



Any more information on Luciano and Alba would be greatly appreciated as well.

This is a transcription of the original act.
The wedding took place in Milan.
Luciano was residing in Venice and Alba in Milan, then most probably they both got back to Venice.
So if they had any children that’s where we should find them, the first ones at least.

They arrived on the 19th January on S.S.Cedric from Liverpool as PippoM found out.
You’re right, it would be interesting to find out if they went back to UK at some stage.
