Medieval villages in Italy

Post by tinamatos »

I'm planning a trip to Italy and am hoping to find a really picturesque medieval village to spend a few days. Something not overly touristy (though I understand those often will be, so i get it if it is), but beautiful. As an example, I was in France last year and went to Eze Village and loved it, so thinking something along those lines if you're familiar with it. No modern buildings, lots of winding cobblestone streets, etc. Ideally in central Italy, but open to anywhere in Italy.

Fumone Frosinone. There is also a castle complete with a ghost and a baby Conserved in wax. Two popes died In this castle, which also has a garden complete with trees on the roof. An amazing place.

You will find a lot in Umbria, Tuscany, and in Latium, in the provinces of Viterbo, Rieti, and Frosinone (as Ann said).

Check out the "trulli" (round stone structures with cone-shaped stone roofs) found in Puglia (Apulia). Some can be rented out to tourists...

Medieval villages in Italy are absolutely enchanting! Their cobblestone streets, historic architecture, and breathtaking landscapes make them feel like a journey back in time. It would be great to hear recommendations on some hidden gems or must-visit spots!
