Michele Christoforo Garelli & Philasia De Nocker

Post by DENOCKER »

Dear all,

I am researching for more data on "Michele Christoforo Garelli" ( born 08-02-1871 in Margarita (Cunéo - Italy) and his wife " Philasia de Nocker" (born 24-12-1866 Sas Van Gent - The Netherlands)
They married 06-04-1912 in Ghent ( belgium) and moved to Palermo where they ran a Hotel.

I do know that Michele Garelli died 12-11-1963 at Galbiate - Italy. ( that is written at the side of the birth record of Michelle).
We also know they both moved from Palermo to the area of Torino most probably after WO 2 . But what happened exactly to his wife Philasia is still a mistery. We are also curious if there were any children in that mariage ?

Michele wrote a letter to the family In the Netherlands at the time Philasia died - but no-one knows any details, nor any timeframe on that fact. The letter was written after 1945 and before 1963.

So , if someone has access to death records of the area of Torino, Galbiate ? Please help

Hello Eric and welcome to the Forum,

From the side annotation on Garello Michele’s birth act it looks like he married Philasie in Cuneo and not in Ghent.
Do you know otherwise?

These are the Marriage Banns in Cuneo dated 13 March 1912 between Michele Cristoforo Garelli and Pelagia De Nocker.
The request comes from Gand. (Ghent).

Unfortunately the death records for the years you’re interested in are not online.

You could contact the comune of Galbiate, now in the province of Lecco, to request Michele’s death certificate.
You got the details.
The date is 12 November 1963, as you know, and the act is #44. Parte 1.
From there you would be able to see if he was widowed or not.

Hi DENOCKER,
Since Michele died in Galbiate in 1963 and the couple had moved to the Torino area after 1945, Philasia’s death likely occurred in northern Italy, possibly in the provinces of Torino, Cuneo (Michele’s birthplace), or Lecco (where Galbiate is located).

Dear,
THX for the fast reply - I do have the official birth and mariage documents of Michel and Philasia. The only missing thing is the death of Philasia ( Pelagie) and possible children in that mariage. As they had a hotel in Palermo, possibly also children born in Palermo ? Has somebody an idea to research for these possible children ?

Will surely use the link to communicate with Galbiate // will need to understand some italian :) first - keep you informed on the progress.

THX so far,

Dear,
I have already result from " comune di Galbiata" // Michele Garelli arrived there 1956 as widower coming from the village of Poppi. His wife Philasia died 22/12/1949 - not sure so far if this happened at Poppi.

Will contact Poppi to have more details
THX so far for the support,

Dear all,

Information from " comune di Poppi " learns me that Michelle arrived Januari 1956 and left Poppi July 1956.
He came from Margarita ( place were he was born)
Awaiting now some more data from "comune di Margarita"
( Amazing how fast both Poppi and Galbiate informed me )

Dear all,

As I was surprised by the fast responses of both comune di Poppi and comune di Galbiate, I am now even highly surprised / dissapointed by the fact that "comune di Margarita " simply does not respond at all on my mail to their administration...., wrote 2 times a mail last weeks - nothing returned....
