Tufobia name on birth record

Post by warriorrabbit »

Hey there, came across this as it includes a family name as a parent, but I’m not entirely sure what’s going on here. Can anyone clarify/summarize?

The document is the birth certificate of a baby girl, approximately 40 days old, abandoned in the wheel of the Messina Hospital Foundling Service on 9 August 1893. A note accompanying her stated that the baby was Carmela Lusitano, daughter of Giovanni Lusitano and Concetta Costantino, baptised on 2 July 1893 at the Parish Church of San Leonardo, abandoned because her mother was seriously ill and her father had no means of support.
The baby girl was baptised and given the name Carmela Tufobia by the registrar.
