Hello,
We are a french family from Chambery (close to italian border). My wife is born Staticelli. His grand-father is Léopold Rodi STATICELLI and his grand-grand-father seems to be Humberto STATICELLI.
It seems that this person (or their father?) was an orphan and that the name was invented by the orphanage. Is that possible? Is there anything in the Italian archives that you could find about Humberto STATICELLI ?
Thank you very much for your help!

An orphan would bear his father or mother surname. And abundant baby would be given an invented name by the town office club. There is lots of information on abandoned babies and fans on my website angelresearch.net.

Re: STATICELLI: an invented last name?
You are probably confusing orphans with foundlings. Orphans keep their father's surname even after their parents' deaths, unless they are legally adopted. Foundlings are given a surname by the registrar, which varies from one municipality to another. They only change it if they are legally adopted, which is very rare, taking that of their adoptive father.
The surname Staticelli does not currently exist in Italy, at least not in the regions bordering France.
