Re:ATTO DI MORTE IN REGGIO CALABRIA

Post by mezzogiorno62 »

seeking a death record for a paolo labate in reggio di calabria. the city.this is an extremely common name here so family connections are very important. this paolo labate, born in 1827, was married to a fortunata labate, born in 1836, in reggio in 1859. they had several children all born in reggio. fortunata died in reggio in 1906 age 70 and paolo survived her.as of 1911,as noted in son giovanni's death record, paolo is still living, age about 84.assuming he could have possibly,if unlikely, lived to 100,he could have died anytime between 1911 and 1927. i checked every year in this time period and find nothing. year by year as well as 10 year indexes.highly unlikely a man in his 80s left the city of his birth marriage and where all his family resided,or immigrated to america at this point in life. previously i had considered the possibility he died in the 1908 earthquake, but he evidently survived that as he was still living in 1911. any help or suggestions in resolving this search and mystery greatly appreciated.

yes. i have that record. but as my post explains my search is for when paolo her husband died. most likely in reggio as a man widowed and in his 80s was most likely not leaving for america or even another comune. wife fortunata was actually 70,born in 1836. paolo was born in 1827 and 79 when fortunata died. as i stated in my post,he was still living in 1911,age 84, according to son antoninos death record and not a victim of the 1908 quake as i originally thought.. most likely he died within the next decade and in reggio as a man in his 80s not likely to move to another comune never mind emigrate to america. i checked all years after 1911 up to 1925 and found nothing. year by year indexes and a 10 year index 1916-1925. nothing.

Could we have a look at the death certificate of his son Antonino, or Giovanni, from 1911?

i'm not techy enough to connect a link. better at research than things technical.old school starting out with microfilm on reels. but if you go to antenati its found in december 1911. giovanni labate son of paolo and the late fortunata.no idea how this would reveal the date of paolo's death, but it does reveal that paolo was still living in reggio as of 1911 age 84.and considering the facts that most likely he never left reggio or emigrated, and probably died before 1927 when he would have been 100,if it were registered, the death most likely occurred between 1911 and 1927 in reggio. segnatura attuale 25: parte 3 december 1911 numero 901

There are no death records from Reggio Calabria for 1911 on Antenati.

yes there are. click on portale antenati click on archivio di stato di reggio calabria, click on esplora fondi then click on stato civile italiano. click on reggio di calabria.click on 4 at the bottom of that page and it shows 4 parts for morte in 1911. segnatura attuale 23 parte 1 segnatura attuale 24 parte 2 segnatura attuale 25 parte 3 segnatura attuale 26 parte 4. the death for giovanni labate is no. 901 in december 1911 in segnatura attuale 25 parte 3 as i noted. i just checked it again. i found the link at family search. i typed in records search for fortunata labate. that brought up her connection to son giovanni in civil registration for reggio di calabria state archive 1784-1943. clicked on that and it brought up the entry information. dec.14,1911 no. 901. death record for giovanni labate in reggio di calabria. thats how i found the information needed to search at antenati. if you follow my steps at antenati you can't miss it. the resulting link you sent is totally different from the search results i got at antenati after following the links as i described them. check it out. i just went through the process again. but again, how is paolo labates presence as living at his son giovanni's death going to point to the date of his death after 1911? i checked year by year after 1911 as well as the registry 10 year index 1916-1925 segnatura attuale 54 parte 1. nothing. as i said not very techy but i sent copies of the page by attachment. not sure if you can enlarge it enough to read it.
