Photograph-Before&After

Post by Emmy »

Hi everyone, While helping Sheronb on her post on the genealogy forum she posted a coloured wedding photograph of her relatives - she told us it had been done for her on another site and they also restored pictures too. (www.rootschat.com.) Just like this forum its free and its people using their skills to help others.
I had only one photograph of my mother when she was 16/17 years old when she in service to a family in Edinburgh, but it was all cracked. So I joined the forum and posted the damaged picture to see if anyone could help. This is the result.

This is the original photograph

This is the restored picture done by 'Glen' (hope I got that right)

This is it again in black/white

Hi Maria
The original was the only photo I had of my mum when she was young and it was really very badly cracked. I honestly didnt think it would have been possible to restore it. I had tried on my computer (Roxi photo suite)to remove some of the damaged cracks etc but it didnt work. A few other people on the 'rootschat' site had a go at restoring it too but even they said that Glen's version was 'great'.

Love and hugs

Oh, Emmy. I'm so pleased for you....a real treasure for your children, grandchildren & future generations. I had one of my grandmother that wasn't as bad as yours & cost a small fortune to have it professionally redone.

Thanks for sharing.

XOXO

Hi everyone
I'm really pleased it turned out like that, like you say Joyce, it's nice to have a photograph to pass on to future generations.

Image for your comments.

Hi Lisa
On the website that did my photographs www.rootschat.com there is a section for Scotland and it lists all the areas separately where you can post for information. (Thought I'd mention that Marisa is first class at research in Scotland.)

If your search included Fife I could look up any information you would like at my local FHC they have very good records there and I go there regularly, so it would be no bother.

The other site I have used is www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk there is a limited free search there but after that you have to buy credits to view (30 credits for £6) 1 credit to view list and 5 credits to view/download certificate. (there is also information on 'Roots' about how to get the best of 'Scotlandspeople' ie value for money.

If you want to post me some more information about your ancestor I'll see what I can do to help.

God Bless

Thanks Emmy......I will dig up my limited info on James and post at the website......can't remember the area he was from without looking at the notes..... But his surname is quite common........Pringle.

Back to the original topic.....thought about submitting a photo of my Nonno and Nonni to the site and see what kind of magic they can do with it......sure would be nice to see it with some color!!

 Sorry again everyone
I did it again. (I've edited the previous post)
(probably all the mistakes are due to the fact I'm a year older today - even more grey hairs!!)

The scotland website is www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Lisa
I've checked all records for James Pringle between 1885-1905 there are 271 matches, but if you knew the district that could be reduced considerably. If he was married in Scotland if you have name of wife it would reduce it even more and be more accurate. I'll look it up for you if you want. (I'm registered with Scotlandspeople)
