Hello,
I have some old bank wire transfers between my relatives. One is from 1897 and is for 35 lire and the other is from 1906 and is for 200 lire.
Is it possible to find out what the currency exchange to US dollars would be?
Thanks,
GS

Re: Lire exchange rates
The Lire is no longer acceptable currency in Italy. It's all about the Euro.

Hello,
Sorry, I wasn't too clear - I meant is there any way to find out what the exchange rate would have been in 1897 and 1906
Thanks,
GS

Re: Lire exchange rates
Look here (is in italian, but i think quit understable)
http://www.cronologia.it/potere.htm
At that time the exchange was 5.5 liras for every US Dollar.
As logical, to understand the real value, you have to think how much was the salary in that period and what was possibile to buy with one US dollar
