OHHHHHHHHH ESSGEE...about the microfilm...I am not sure how all that works...I mean I know what Microfilm are...but will I have to rent all of them or actually look through all of them that are pretaining to my ancestors?...I have heard that some have 100 rolls or more...so does that mean that I have to look through and rent or buy ALL 100 rolls or so..(what ever the number of rolls are)?

I am just not real familiar with that part of looking stuff up.

THANKS!!!!!

Good Morning....

First, ask about whether your branch has them on permanent loan. If they do, it will cost you nothing.

If they do not, you can:
A. Get to a web site on New Orleans and ask if anyone has access to the records for the year_-_-_-_ Probably 1900 if that is the year of arrival that the census has.

B. If not, you order in the film that covers that same year. You do not have to order them all. It is now $5.50 to rent it for about 1 month, which should give you time to go through the film.

We will look at what is avialable and see the number of possible films that you migh need. Give us a better handle on it.

Back later with more.

Hey Maria,

I am not sure about the Pirrones....I dont know who they are...but we think they may have some connection..cause we found a milone married to a Pirrone...remember???...I usually have to go back and search all post...LOL.

Anyway...the Sangiorgi's (Gaspare) married Concetta MALONE/MILONE/MULONE/MELONE.....but Gaspares mother was a SCACCIA...Rosalie Scaccia..married to Gaspares father Cologero Sangiorgi(o).

But still cant find them anywhere at all.
The only way know about the SCACCIA's is ...I found Gaspares brother, Salvatore (Sam) Sangiorgio ...came over ...but cant remember when...I will have to go back and look....and he came with his wife LAURA DRAGO....and was coming to meet his mother....ROSALIE SCACCIA ...and her father....????? DRAGO.
So Cologero and Rosalie were my dads grandparents.

OH>....and by the way...I got the orphanage letter in...nothing I didnt already know...said parents were from ITALY...not exactly where in ITALY...said...my dads birth year 1918....and both were Catholics...I already knew that...I am so disappointed.
I wrote her an email back...told her if she could me when exactly when my dad went in and exact year when he got out...but nothing yet.

THANKS!!
DON'T LEAVE!!! I STILL NEED HELP ON RESEARCH!!! LOL
PLUS I AM HAVING A BLAST!!!

HOLY MOLY!!!! THIS IS GREAT!!!!!
I will definately have to look this up.
I also know of a SCACCIA who married a Bonfonti...or Buffamonti...or something like that...I think this SCACCIA was Rosalie's sister ANNA.
Because the Relative told me that Sam went by Sam or Salvatore Bonfonti...or Buffamonti...cant remember exactly spelling of name.
But he didnt change it BACK to ST. GEORGE until later on...

The BONFONTI's or BUFFAMONTI's lived in Charleroi, Penn.

I was told by a OLD relative that ANNA adopted Gaspares brother SALVATORE (SAM) the same one in the 1920 Census living with Gaspare St. George and his family...along with the Laura (listed as sister in law).

Ok...hopefully more later.
Have a good evening!!!!!

Maria,

I have found only 2 SCIACCA's in Mezzaro...a Salvatore and a Guiseppe...Salvatore going to Michigan??(i think that is what it says)....and Guiseppe going to Detroit.

BUT...I have found SCACCIA's...some going to New Jersey...some New York....some New Orleans.

I am wondering if you think this is the same families...just different spellings of their last name :?:

And about where is Mezzaro located? Is it by Alia ?
Can you please send me the link about Mezzaro?

I am so confused :? .....LOL.

Well off to work for me!! Will be back later on this afternoon :!:
Have a very good day!! Will see you tonight!

I've found nothing solid after an evening of searching.

It was interesting to find all the surnames you are researching... including Tumbarello and 1 Leone... all found in Mazzara... Mazara

I did find a Tumbarello - Sangiorgio manifest... but again nothing solid...

http://ellisisland.org/search/passRecor ... 5332060051&

First Name: Rosa
Last Name: Tamburello
Ethnicity: Italy, South
Last Place of Residence: Mazzara, Sicily
Date of Arrival: Dec 26, 1916
Age at Arrival: 18y Gender: F Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: Patria
Port of Departure: Palermo
Manifest Line Number: 0022
----------------------------------

Sciacca is the surname of Gaspare's mom... right? Well this is manifest that llead me to check out Mazzara...

Boston Passenger Lists, 1820-1943 Record info
about Maria Perrone
Name: Maria Perrone
Arrival Date: 13 May 1920
Age: 20 years
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1900
Gender: Female
Ethnic Background: Italian (South)
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Ship Name: Cretic
Port of Arrival: Boston, Massachusetts
Friend's Name: Off to join Uncle Giuseppe Sciacca in NY
Last Residence: Italy
Microfilm Roll Number: 253

http://ellisisland.org/search/shipManif ... 1568030153

First Name: Guiseppe
Last Name: Sciacca
Ethnicity: Italian
Last Place of Residence: Mazara, Trapani
Date of Arrival: Apr 14, 1909
Age at Arrival: 21y Gender: M Marital Status: S

Manifest Line Number: 0017

------------------------------------
I think the town name is either called Campobello di Mazara or Mazara Del Vallo... see map... Alia and Mazara (Mazzara?)

http://www.mapquest.com/directions/euro ... c=Alia&2z=

I can't believe how many people left Mazzara for the USA in the early 1900's...

Here's a driving map from Corleone to Alia....

Maria,

I think the Tumborello/Sangiorgio manifest could be it!!
That is too much of the same names for it not to be. The ONLY one is the Guiseppe that I do not know who that could be????

Also...can you make out the names of the Sangiorgios on this manifest?
I can make out Francesco...and guiseppe...but not the one about those.

Also...who were they going meet? I can't make it out.

Dont you think this Rose Tumborello could be the Luchine?...somewhere in my paperwork...I think Luchine was called Rose or Rosie, I think that may be where my Aunt Rose got her name...Mary Rose...Mary after Maria Concetta...and Rose after Luchine...maybe Luchine means Rose or Rosie in Italian?

Thanks for the maps...not actually that far..only about a couple hours or so.

OK...also...I wrote an email to the National Genealogical Society and they wrote back...this is what she said:

Have you checked for the names using the soundex system? Ancestry.com allows you to search in this way. (As a matter of fact I did a soundex search for Pietro Sangiorgi and found a Pietro Sangiria, age 25, living with a cousin and his family in Manhattan Ward 17, New York, New York, 1910 Federal Census.) Since you can not find these folks in the 1910 census perhaps you should try the 1900 census which was soundexed. If they are in the same place as they were in 1920 it is very possible the census taker missed them. Did the 1920 census and 1930 census give birthplaces for the people you are researching? Immigration dates? The NGS online course, Using Census Records in Genealogical Research, may be of help in learning how to get the most out of census records. I wish you luck with your census research.

So...maybe the name was spelled Sangiria???? ....sounds like it could be.

I also read somewhere in some website that sometimes when they took the census they would leave out some of the vowels.
This Sangirgia could be it!!!!
and never thought of SOUNDEXED names!!!

As far as the Scaccia's....I did find ..in all my stuff..some info on the Scaccia's.....someone by the name of Don Monteleone emailed me and said he had this info:
1. Agostino Scaccia, spouse Anna.
2. Michele Scaccia born abt. 1780
Spouse: Maria Anna Valenza
3. Agostino Antonino Scaccia, spouse Ignazia Ippolito.
3. Ignazia Scaccia, spouse, Pietro di Carlo
3. Gaspare Agostino Scaccia, spouse is Francesca Barcellona
4. Anna Scaccia
4. Cosima Maria Scaccia
4. Rosalia Scaccia spouse: Calogero Sangiorgio

5. Pietro Sangiorgio
5. Vincenza Sangiorgio
5. Francesca Sangiorgio
5. Gaspare Sangiorgio (my grandfather)
5. Salvatore Sangiorgio(Sam)...the one living with my grandfather and family in 1920 Census..and I think later on changed last name to Bonfonti...or Buffamonti...adopted by Anna Scaccia and her husband Bonfonti?? or Buffamonti??
5. Calogero Sangiorgio born 1896
5. Calogero Sangiorgio born 1898
(Yes...2 Calogero's...that is weird...LOL)

3. Giacoma Anna Scaccia
3. Anna Maria Scaccia
3. Francesco Michele Scaccia
3. Antonina Scaccia spouse: Giovanni Barcellona.

So here I go...looking up the Sangirgia spelling...and also some of these others....I actually forgot I had this paper that Mr. Monteleone sent me...I had to actually dig for it.

Well I am off looking!!!!

Will also try this weekend to make my out of state calls..hopefully will get some questions answered.

Keep in touch!! LOL...too much fun not to!!!!
Hey...where is Essgee...and everyone else? Havent heard from them in awhile.

Well here is somemore info for them...hopefully we can find something!!

Thanks so very much!!
YOU and EVERYONE here is VERY, VERY much appreciated!!!!!!

line 22 Rosa Tamburello.... Destination St. Louis, joining uncle Francesco Tumbarello at 915 N 7th Street?, St. Louis, MO

Wonder who this Uncle Francesco is ?

http://ellisisland.org/search/passRecor ... 5332060051&

Father (in Italy) mentioned is Nicolo in Mazara

Also...can you make out the names of the Sangiorgios on this manifest?
I can make out Francesco...and guiseppe...but not the one about those.

The one above those other 2 is Illuminata (kinda nice eh?)

0023. Sangiorgio, Illuminata F 22y S Italy, South Mistretta, Sicily Father in Italy is Nicolo
0024. Sangiorgio, Francesca F 20y S Italy, South Mistretta, Sicily grandfather in Italy is Nicolo
0025. Sangiorgio, Giuseppe M 13y S Italy, South Mistretta, Sicily grandfather in Italy is Nicolo

Also...who were they going meet? I can't make it out.

Joining aunt Maria Faillaci, at 1920? S, Carlisle St., Philadelphia, PA

Dont you think this Rose Tumborello could be the Luchine?I don't know..... ...somewhere in my paperwork...I think Luchine was called Rose or Rosie, I think that may be where my Aunt Rose got her name...Mary Rose...Mary after Maria Concetta...and Rose after Luchine...

Maybe Luchine means Rose or Rosie in Italian? Luchine would closer to something like Lucia.. (Lucy) or Luca.... but I don't see a connection to the name Rose though... I posted this manifest because 2 of the surnames you are researching are on this manifest.. maybe a coinsidence...

Thanks for the maps...not actually that far..only about a couple hours or so.... and that's the long route too... best to just hop skip and jump over the mountain...

Hello, I am trying to locate my grandparents from Contessa Entellina,I am looking for information on Nicolo Lala and his wife Margaret.
incola and is wife had one son name Anthoney Lala (born at sea om 1975.
I can not locate Antoney on any ship list or his parents. From what I have been told Nicolo died with Anthoney was around five years old.
I would appreciate any information anyone would have in this search.
thanks you
