Porrovecchio & Romano from Monreale Italy ( Sicily)

Post by ceil23 »

I am hoping someone might pick up these names and offer some info..Porrovecchio is my paternal Grandfather, Romano my paternal Grandmother. Giuseppe Porrovecchio age listed as 27, his birth at 1886 Lucia Romano, age32, her birth at 1881, when they arrived in America.

They arrived in America on April 15, 1913, together and I think with one child Jerome, on the ship America out of Palermo. from Monreale Sicily.

I have not found any records as far as cenus records, they settled in New Orleans. La.
My grandfather died I think around 1916, from blood posioning. his younger brother Salvatore came to the states and married my grandmother who was pregnant with their 3rd child, Have no record of his death. The only grandfather I knew growing up was Salvatore.

My plans are to to to the LDS History center to see what info I can find. I do know my grandfather's parents were Jerome Porrovecchio and Saveria Renda... My grandmothers parents I don't know a thing about.

Going by the way the boys were named, I assume her father's name was Ignazio, their first born was named Jerome, my father was named Ignazio, and the last boy named Giuseppe....

possible census, many similarities
(hard to read)
possible 1930 census

record on ancestry under Joe Perovecho
best guesses:
- Joes?? Perovecho, head and a note: boarder, brother?, lives on farm, 47 (1883), 1st marriage age 20, immig 1915 Al, helper farm
- wife Lucille 45 (1885), 1st marriage age 18, immig 1911 Al
- son Paul 15 (1915)
- son Joseph 14 (1916)
- daughter Vivian 9 (1921)

question? could one of the boys answered the census?
asked their father's name - they said Joe?

I'd like to Thank everyone who found info for me, You guys are wonderful....would have taken me years to come up with this info.

Seems strange that my Grandfater made so many trips back and forth from Italy to the states, I really felt the manifest I found of both grandparents in 1913 are them, however I could be wrong. Didn't see any other coming from Mornreale Sicily but them. Guess I will have to look again at Ellis Island and make copy of the 1911 arrival into the states.
I do know the name Squatrito being related to our family, and found out they were either related through marriage or being cousins....had to be through marriage. I did read the message board a few years back and made contact with Pete the author of it..he had a picture of my g- grandparents that he sent to me.....I didn't even know their names until then.
The Salvadore death notice is of the grandfather I knew as being mine until I got older. and it was explained to me.
Had no idea when my Uncle Jerome ( Jim) passed away, do know they did call him Jim, but didn't think it would be listed that way. I had heard that my grandmother lost a baby, but didn't know the sex or the child's name, now I know.

I think Angelo and Antonio were cousins, we do have cousins in New Orleans but didn't see them much.

Yes Sarevia Rende was the Mother of Guiseppe and Salvatore, that I did find out from the Squatrito's...

The census does list my Father Paul( Ignazio) Joseph, and Vivian daughter of Salvadore anad Lucia....I always thought my dad was born in 1914, could be mistaken. he passed away July16, 1989. Have not been able to get his SS info because he passed away in Texas and for some reason its blocked in that state.....which doesn't make sense to me, I was able to get my stepmothers SS info and she died in Texas. My dad was proud of his SS card, he had the orginial one from 1936.
He is buried in the military cemetary in Houston, on his grave marker it list him as Nace Porrovecchio, short for Ignaizo I guess. He was in the Navy during the second world war.

Looking at the marriage date of Lucia and Salvadore as July 29th 1919, their daughter Vivian was born July, 29th 1921....

Again I say THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH....YOU ARE MIRACLE WORKERS AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED.

:P Thank you so much, just wrote and a error occured......lost it

Yes, it is my father's records, he is buried in that cemetary, my step mother is buried with him. The SS records I couldn't find on him, I know he had his card since 1936.

The divorces are those of my brother, married 4 times, this last one took....ha ha ha...

Seems like some of what you posted at the beginning of my post is no longer there, could it have been deleted??? the one where you wrote when Salvatori left his mother, or was it Giuseppe??Saveria Renda.. that I couldn't find, and I didn't make a copy...really upset with myself.

I know I have the wrong manifest on Salvatore coming into the states, the dates and age doesn't jive.....he could have come into the Port Of New Orleans, and by passed Ellis Island...records on Ellis shows one arriving in 1911, at age 18, the town is spelled Marrcale Sicily, could this be a typographical error?? He was born on Jan. 3rd 1886, died 1967 at age 72. I've been trying to get a correct age to when he and my grandmother were married in July of 1919, list him at 25. I do know she was older then he. And if my memory serves me right the stories I heard was he came to the states after my grandfahter died to marry my grandmother to help raise the 3 boys.

I don't know if I have the right manifest on my Lucia Romano, and Giuseppe Porrovecchio either, I have 1913, but that would mean my grandfather had to go back to Sicily to travel with her. unless I have the wrong on.. if you had immigration dates at the begining, they are no longer there....

My grandfathers dates all jive.....born in 1886, arrived at 21 in 1907, died in 1915, at age 29......all correct as far as I can see.

This can be all so confusing !!!

My page says 1 of 1, but with all you have sent it should be more I would think.......anyway we can check that out???
Again I Thank you gals, :D ceilk23
