Guiseppe's Detained Record

says "he has to phone" under Reason for Detention... - "father Guis. at 69 McDaugal (sp?) St." is mentioned under the DISPOSITION column...

So now we have a Chianasi and a Guis. (listed as fathers) in NY, and a Guiseppe in Italy.....

I think the info on the Record of Detained Aliens would be more correct...
But I have no proof... a 1910 census record of this address would help...

Maria

If I did Steve Morse's site correctly & think I did, ('cause I did find McDougal in 1910 census), there is no 69 McDougal listing.

NOTE: ED#827 in 1910

Last night I did a 'page by page' search of the districts for a 69 MacDougal St. There were times when I felt that I was getting closer to the house.. and then nothing!!

Then I just ran out of time.. and steam.... :x

I saw that one too... just didn't think it said "Lise"...

I think it says Lese... since the "i's" are very distinctive throughout the manifest...

Hi there in UK!!

Isn't there a LDS Family History Center in your area? They may have computers ... with Ancestry. com access...

It wasn't all that frustrating to look... actually it was interesting... what I think was very helpful in my case, was the little map of Manhattan... since I am not too familiar with the area...

I was surprised to see how close PA and NJ are once you cross over the bridge... hope I read the map correctly...
Little Giuseppe Lise - Born 1891
1909 June - Reported to 69 Mac Dougal St (Ellis Island 1909, Detention Record), joined his "father"/"parent" Giuseppe?, also unknown family Chianasi???
Chianasi... hmmm.... Did you notice the word "Solivan" St. ?? with the line running through it?? While searching last night... Sullivan Street did exist in the very same area... obviously, this Giuseppe Lise had trouble confirming where he was going... all the reason to detain him...

Link to enlarged destination & father's name

I am interested to see where research takes me today...

I will see what I can dig up....

Maria

P.S. Thank you Joyce for looking this up and getting back to me .... :P

Further... manifest that I posted earlier needs correction.... Marie wasn't a Marie... but a Mario.... (just noticed a draft record for an Adelson Mario...)

Marie Adelson Lise Dec 25, 1909 Havre.....

Thank you for the correction Maria.

All the streets we're looking at are within the same area ... it must had been full of Italian immigrants there at that time. I wonder how it looks like now!

Nice map! I like that! :!:

Here's 7 (not 10...) Carmine St., New York... and now I'm getting hungry!!

http://newyork.citysearch.com/bestof/winners/2005/pizza

It seems like the Italian culture is still there...

Does make you wonder what that area looked like in 1910...

If you click Famous Joe's Pizza link it will bring you to his site... which has old pics!! well old buildings... am sure that these pics aren't all that old tho...

http://www.famousjoespizza.com/photogalery.htm

Villa Mosconi's link (which you posted earlier)

http://www.villamosconi.com/

Hey... I'm inviting them (Villa Mosconi people) over to this post... maybe they can give us some info... should be interesting!!

You just never know!!

Maria :P

(further... sent them an email... let's hope they reply...) :o

Wow you located the record!!!

So no Lise at 59 Mac Dougal Street in 1910 April... :(

According to the 1910 (Dec) manifest Antonio was going back to his home at 2-4 Carmin Street. So the Lises must have moved to Carmine Street between 1909 Dec and 1910 April ...

Alternatively Mario Adelson Lise (arrived 1909 Jun) and Giuseppe Lise (arrived 1909 Dec) both provided the wrong address?
