hunting the calabrias in gizzeria

Post by AbitLost »

I am trying to track down some information about my great grandparents Gasperino and Anna Calabria. They lived in gizzeria and emigrated to USA from Napoli in 1920. I found their signatures in the Ellis Island records but I can't find anything about them before they left Italy. Any ideas?

To research Italian records your best best may be to order microfilms from Italy if they are available. I'm not sure whats out there..one of our other members that are more familiar with them can help with that. Unfortunately Italian records are not online.

There is a small forum for Ancestry search in Gizzeria

http://poisson.phc.unipi.it/~maxreen/ph ... um.php?f=2

You can ask there...

In the Ellis Island records you can read that

Gasperino Calabria has a wife Anna
a son Giulio and a daughter Palma and father Gennaro.

I think that this is enough to start a research into the
civil record of Gizzeria.

Hi Michelle,

You can write to the comune for extracts of their (Gasperino Calabria & Anna Trov?to) birth acts & marriage act + records for their parents.

Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Via Albania
88040 Gizzeria (CZ)
ITALY

Correspondence should be in Italian & include a self addressed return envelope, a copy of your photo ID & some (increase according to amount of records being requested) & international reply coupon(s). The coupons cover the cost of the return postage & you get them at your post office.

Once you get the families back some, you can continue tracing the families through the LDS (Mormons) films for the civil records (birth, marriage & death acts) for this town. They cover the years 1809-1860 & possibly can get you back to early or mid 1700's.

Here is the film information.
