Could you post a link to the manifest? Or tell us the database it was from and the exact name and someone can look it up. Its hard to give an opinion on something we can't see.

Hi Everyone,
Even though the name on the manifest was transcribed incorrectly, I do agree with Pink. The name is as follows:
Campagna Maria
16 years old
single
occupation: house wife
coming from Trabia, Palermo, Sicily, Italy
Going to go see her parents in McKeesport, Pennsylvania
Now the Family History Center does have microfilm for the town of Trabia. The films go from 1820-1910. On the films you can find copies of the birth, marriage, and death acts of your ancestors. The films cost $5.75 a roll depending on your location. Here is the link for the film numbers.

Here is the link to find the nearest Family History Center.

Just in case you don't want to use the films and still want records of your ancestors, you always can write to the town directly.
Here is the address for the town.
Officio Stato Civile
Comune di Trabia
Via Spalla, 28
90019 Trabia PA
ITALY
Here is a link from ICC that will help you translate your letter into Italian. The request for records much be in Italian.

Re: 1901 Manifest name on line #5 Maria ?
Thanks! I couldn't find any Camfiaofus names. I even have the manifest copy from Ellis Island, not much better reading. I have already ordered films from my local Family History Center in San Jose,Ca. It will take 6-8 weeks , they are back logged!
I will also write for records, thanks for the link.
Always, Marlene

Rough translation..
I read your post and agree that the correct surname is Campagna. Here in Trabia there are many with this name.
Remember, I said rough...

Re: 1901 Manifest name on line #5 Maria ?
Thanks Livio! My Italian is not great but I can manage to read simple sentences. Of course, give me a book to read in Italian and watch out! I won't be able to make any sense of it.
I can't write it at all and can only really speak dialect unless I go very slow and think about the words carefully. Even then I make several mistakes in pronunciation.
I really like it when someone posts in Italian here and then translate the post in English, too. For most of us, its the best learning technique and I've learned so much over the last few years because of it. Hope you will consider posting in both language since you have a great knowledge of both. I, for one, know I would appreciate it very much.
Will you consider it?
