Re: Christmas Eve meals of Regions
A typical Christmas Eve meal in Sora is based on fish. No meat is eaten the day of a 'vigil'. There would be an antipasto of shellfish etc, spaghetti alla vongole (clams) or other seafood. Baccala (salt cod), in oil garlic and parsley, or deep fried in batter, other fish like salmon with potatoes etc. Salad, fresh fruit, and then coffee and the sweets, panetone, pandoro, susanelli cookies etc. All this followed by the arrival of Santa or the opening of presents.

Re: Christmas Eve meals of Regions
My family is from Southern Italy and on Christmas Eve my madre cooks 7 fishes. No more no less. Does anyone know what the significance of the number 7 is?
Re: Christmas Eve meals of Regions
Ah, yes, the feast of the 7 fishes. My family did that too, although that tradition has been lost. Here are some websites that explain it. Evidently the tradition goes back to the Bronze age! 8O
