ARGENTINA IMMIGRATION FROM ITALY?

Post by da42na »

Hello,

does anyone know if there is any way to research Immigration to Argentina like the Ellis Island resource...which is awesome! My Grandfather ,Luigi Fortuna form Monteleone(VV), immigrated to the US in 1905, but his family ended up in Argentina...... It seems like whever you get on the internet you have to buy something from Ancestry.com, do they own all rights to everything?...LOL..... My lineage also includes Meddis/LoSciavo,Labella/Procopio from Stefanoconi/Monteleone/VV area

thanks,

David Fortuna

Hi David,

First I want to say that I have the surname Procopio in my family. They are from the town of Isca Sullo Ionio which in Catanzaro, Calabria.

Here are links to help you with your research in Argentina.

The link below might help you find when your ancestors arrived. You have to register, but it's free. Click on the words "Find Your Roots", create a user name and password and then you can search for Brazil and Argentina

This link has some helpful genealogy links about Argentina.

Also, the Family History Center has microfilm that you can order and rent for $5.75 a roll for the town of Montelone di Calabria (in Vibo Valentia) Here is the link for the film numbers.

And for census records here in the USA, you can always go to the library or the Family History Center and use their ancestry.com for free and all you have to do is pay for the copies you print. Or you can give us names, dates, and locations, and I'm sure some of us on here will be happy to give you information.

I hope this helps,

Hi Trish,

You said that you have the name Procopio in your family. I am looking for relatives of Giuseppe Procopio. He was born in the 1890's and died in 1970's somewhere in the state of Pensylvania. I know that he had a grand child who was born in 1959 or 1960. Can you help me find these long lost relatives of mine. I am from Montreal.

thanks,

Andy

Hi Trish,

Do the Birth acts for Giuseppe parretta have the names of his parents. I know his mother's name was Rosina. Also, how can I obtain his marriage certificate from the united states?

Thnanks,

Hi Andy,

I would have to look at the films to see what Giuseppe Procopio was born who had a mother named Rosina (possibly Rosaria too).

I'll let you know if I find anything.

****

About the Marriage Record, where do you think he got married? If you know the State, then you would write to the County that you think he was married in.

I hope this helps.
